by/from の差は極めて微妙なニュアンスの差ですね。敢えて言えば by はその（手紙などの）内容が発信者の意思をあらわす意味合いが強く、from は「から来た」という点に重きを置いています。video ならその内容は発信者の意思とまでは言えず単に「から来た」の意味しかないだろうから from で良いと言ったニュアンスの差でしょう。 確かに文例としては手紙などでは sent by Mary (message sent by Christ; a letter sent by a traveller from the place visited) の方が使用例が (圧倒的に) 多いと思います。 ただし sent from でも意味は同じですし、message sent from John to Christ; the letter sent from the President to the World Bank などのように from と to を組み合わせる使い方がよく用いられます。to なしの from はその延長線上だと思います。 場所、組織という解釈の件ですが a letter sent from the heaven; letter sent from Tokyo の場合は確かに正解は from (by は間違い) です。でも letter sent by/from the company; letter sent by/from the city はどちらも使われます (やや by が多いかな)。つまり場合によりけりです。

質問者さんのお考えは正しいと思います。 １。The video ( which { that} was ) sent from Mary was interesting. ２。The video ( which { that} was ) sent by Mary was interesting. １は Mary を発送の場所と考え、２は Mary を発送した人と考えているからです。by の用法には人だけでなく#１さんのおっしゃるように、航空便などの手段を示す時に使うこともあります。 この場合正解が一つ、と言うよりは「見方」が違うだけでどちらも使えると思います。

from で正しいです。byなら郵便配達人とか郵便局とかクロネコヤマト或いはair mail, surface等ということです。

「be known by」と「be known to」の違いは分 かるんですが、辞書（ジーニアス）に「The true story was known by the few concerned but not to the public」という例文があったんですが、どうして「by the few concerned」の方はbyになってるんですか？byでもtoでも間違いではないんですか？ よろしくお願いします。

Yumeko took us to three different locations that provided nice scenery from which to sketch, but much of her time was spent helping the beginner-level students with the basics of how to wet up, so the middle-level students were bored. 上記の文のfrom which to sketchの部分で 'which' が意味的、文法的によくわからず、気持ちがすっきりしません。。。 文全体の意味としては、「Yumekoが、スケッチするために、景色が美しい3か所の場所に私たちを連れて行ってくれた」 になるのでしょうか？from whichがなくても意味はかわらないのかなと思ったりするのですが、いかがでしょう？ どうか、この疑問にお答えいただけると大変助かります。どうぞよろしくお願いいたします。

(4)John was baked the cake by Mary. と以上のような文がありますが、(1)～(3)は文法的に適性なのに、なぜ(4)だけは文法的に間違っているのでしょうか？ 一応私の推論ですが、give型同士は元来「AがBをCにあげる」という意味が基本。一方buy型動詞では「AがBを買う」という意味が基本でCの要素は追加的。ということからbuy型は前置詞にforを使い「Cのために」という意味を付け加える必要がある。よってfor以外の前置詞を使わざるをえないような、buy型動詞を使う文は成立しない。という感じで考えてみました。（これだと３番目の説明がつかないのですが・・・） わかる方はご回答をお願いします。
