まず、2) と 3) は間違いです。理由は、一人の人間が複数箇所に同時に居住することは論理的に無理だからです。subourb, outskirt を複数形で使うのは、例えば東京の郊外全体を指す場合です。 また「どこどこに住んでいる」という意味の時 live の後に使う前置詞は、普通 in であり、on では有りません。on は厳密には文法的に間違い。City より小さな地域を指す場合には、at を使うことも有ります。 USAの例が出ていましたが、USA以外の例を挙げると、日本の県にあたる行政区分を敷いている国は幾つも有ります。例えばスウェーデンの場合、首都のストックホルム市周辺がストックホルム県（日本語ではストックホルム郡とも呼ばれている）であり、同県内のストックホルム市以外の地域が英語では suburb of Stockholm となります。 武蔵野市が suburb of Tokyo なのは、以上の理由からです。
