御礼が遅れました、すみません。 うーん、なるほどー、という感じです。 参考URLもつけていただき有難うございます。総合的に考えると、この一文の "up to speed" に対応する表現はやはり "in 5th gear" 以外にないので、その理由からもbenderさんのおっしゃるとおり "they" は「読者」ということになりますね。 微妙にニュアンスが掴みづらいのですが、つまるところ「俺の今日の投稿でぼくの近況を分かって欲しいね（近況を書くから読んでね）」というぐらいの意味のセリフなのでしょうかね。 ＞ところでバイクのギアは６速まである場合も多いと思うの ＞ですが、筆者が書いているバイクは５速までのようなので ＞その後の文脈ともあうと思います。 うーん、深い！
