中3の英語の教科書からキング牧師のスピーチでの1節です。 I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. ・・・・彼らの肌の色ではなく, 彼らの性格の中身で判断される・・・・のところですが、 not A but Bだとする解説書がありました。 一方、持ってる文法の参考書では、Ａ，Ｂは語なら語、句なら句とありました。 有名なスピーチの一節だということを考えなければ、受験英文法的には【not】 の位置は下記でしょうか？ they will be judged 【not】 by the color of their skin 【but】 by the content of their character.

Those who wish to apply to Yamada corp. may send their resumes by fax or phone,but not by letter. まず、 those whoといきなりきてるんですが、これはpeople whoという意味ですかね？ wish toはwant toとおなじですかね？ Yamada corp.の一番最後にピリオドがあるんですが、これはそういう形式なのでしょうか？ mayの訳が解答では、できるみたいな感じですが、canに代用できますか？また、mayは～かもしれないというような推量の意味がすぐに浮かぶんですが、なぜcanではなくmaｙを使っているんでしょうか？ butの後ろにSVがこないでnot letterとおけるものなんでしょうか？ どれか１つだけでもありがたいので 解答をお待ちしております。

His failure is considered to come from the lack of effort. Sはto不定詞の意味上の主語を兼ねていると説明されています。 His failure comes... ＋ is considered 分かるにはわかるのですが、しかし to come from the lack of effort. が目的語となる、つまりto不定詞は目的語となる名詞節をまとめるという説明では駄目なのでしょうか？
