と、なっています。
He stoodだけなら、彼は立ったという訳になると思うので、多分quiteが影響しているのかなと思ったのですが、ここでのquiteはどういう意味で使われているのでしょうか?
もしくは、still in the darkは、暗い場所にいる間という訳になると思うので、この部分があるから、立っていたという訳になっているのでしょうか?
ただ、このようにするなら、had stoodのようになる気もするのですが何故had stoodではないのでしょうか?

と載っています。
