as if lost の文法解釈について
添付ファイル文章の The children were running all over the house as if lost;の文法についてです。 As if (they :children were )lost のカッコか省略されているという理解で合っているのか自信がないです。 解説お願いします。

It was as if a curtain had come down on a stage. という文の解釈の仕方が分かりません。いったんホテルに戻るとアメリカ人は質問をやめ、それは、ステージに幕がおりたかのようだった。という訳ですが、as if の使い方からすると、過去のことを表すように書かれていたように解釈しているのですが、「質問を止めた時幕が既におりていたみたいになり、仮定法過去完了を用いるのは主節の動詞の表すときより前のことを述べる場合、というのと違っているように感じるのですが・・・」

問題集「仮定法」の章を見ていたら， I remember her smile as clearly as if I were looking at her now. という例文に出くわしました。 この，「as(1) 副詞 as(2) if」の「as(2)」は「as if」の「as」だと了解できますが，では「as(1)」は文法的にはいったいどう説明できるのでしょうか？ お知恵を拝借させてください。

The ants looked as if they knew what they're doing. この文章で2つの考え方ができると思うのですが、まず、if節を直接法と考えた場合、「アリ達は多分、何をするかを知っているようだった。」仮定法と考えた場合、「アリ達は多分、何をするかを知っているようだった。」と言う訳になると思うのですが、 どちらにしてもthey're doingが現在形になる理由がどうしてもわかりません。よろしくお願いいたします。

すいません、下の文の文法的解釈がわからなくて質問しました。 he began to study more than twenty-two thousand healthy male doctors over forty years of age. Half took an aspirin every other day. The others took what they thought was aspirin. It was only a placebo, an inactive substance. この文のThe others took what they thought was aspirin.の部分のです。 意味は「他の人は彼らがアスピリンであると考えるものを使いました。」だと思うのですが、thought was が動詞、動詞となっていて構造がわかりません。 thought it was のようにitが省略されてるのでしょうか？ もしそうなら省略していいものなのでしょうか？ よろしくお願いします。

as（reason/time）の勉強をしていますが、素朴な疑問がでましたので、教えてくださると助かります。 下記の文章を→のように変えることも可能ですか？ as に関係なしに文法のルールがあるのでしょうか？ それとも、asを使うときは、「してること」が先に「出来事」を後に書くというルールなどがあるのでしょうか？ <Reason> （１）As it was a public holiday, all the shops were shut. → All the shops were shut as it was a public holiday. （２）As they live near us, we see them quite often. → We see them quite often as they live neat us. （３）We watched television all evening as we had nothing better to do. → As we had nothing better to do, we watched television all evening. <Time> （４）Tim slipped as he was getting off the bus. → As Tim was getting off the bus, he slipped. （５）The thief was seen as he was climbing over the wall. → As he was climbing over the wall, the thief was seen. （６）As I sat down, the phone rang. → The phone rang as I sat down. → As the phone rang, I sat down. (意味が変わりそうですが。。） （７）As we were going out, it stared to rain. → It stared to rain as we were going out. → As it stared to rain, we were going out. （これも意味が変わりそうですが） もし、as以前に基本的な文法がわかっていないと思う場合は文法の何を勉強すればいいのか こちらのアドバイスも頂けると大変嬉しいです。 よろしくお願いします。

すみませんが教えてください。 ハリケーンによる被害に関する記事の中に、 He said that as many power-cables were lost or damaged in that single night as had been in the previous ten years. という文章がありまして、意味は大体わかるのですが、 （一夜にして、過去１０年分に匹敵する被害がでた云々・・・） as as の文法的な役割などがわかりません。同格のas なんでしょうか？それとも関係代名詞のas？どなたか詳しい方、教えてください。 よろしくお願いします。

伊藤和夫氏の某参考書の問題です、新潟大学の問題だそうです。 It is often possible to make known what one wants and what he is thinking about by means of gestures, without the use of words, and it may be that men talked by signs before they used spoken language. There are many gestures which are still used to express ideas and which almost everybody understands. When one shakes his head on being asked a question we understand that he means "no," just as well as if he had spoken the word. Similarly if he nods in response to a question we understand that he means "yes." But besides these two simple forms of answering a question we may express a great many other ideas by signs. Putting the forefinger to the lips when someone is talking means "keep quiet" just as clearly as if these words were spoken aloud. Holding up both hands means "I surrender." Shrugging the shoulders and shaking the head often means "I don't know." 上の文の、 When one shakes his head on being asked a question we understand that he means "no," just as well as if he had spoken the word. ですが、参考書の説明では、 as well as は「...はもちろん」ではなく本来の比較で、 When one shakes his head on being asked a question と if he had spoken the word の副詞節を比較していると書いてあります。 ここまでは分かるのですが、 But besides these two simple forms of answering a question we may express a great many other ideas by signs. The autumn winds visit me as if to say that he is tired of me. (世をあき（秋・飽き）風の便りならでは） as if it said that he is tired of me： まるで～と言うかのごとく だとすれば、質問文は まるで～と言う のために ？ as if ＝接続詞と覚えているため、文法的にどう理解していいのやら、よくわかりません・・・

この英文に続くasが納得いかないのです！ The case against boredom in school is the same as the case against the fear; it makes children behave stupidly, some of them on purpose, most of them because they cannot help it. ここまでは意味・構文ともに問題はありません。しかし、次の英文の【as】です。 If this goes on long enough, as it does in school, they forget what it is like to grasp at something, 【as】 they once grasped at everything, with all their minds and senses; they forget how to deal positively and aggressively with life and experience, to think and say "I see it! I get it! I can do it" セミコロンまでの和訳はこのようになっています。 「もしもこのことが、実際に授業でそうであるように、存分に続いてしまうと、彼らがかつて全ての思考や感覚を使ってあらゆることを理解していった【ように】、何かを理解するとはどのようなことかを彼らは忘れてしまうのである。」 この英文において1つ目のas it does in schoolのasは様態のasで「～のように」でなんら異論はありません。 しかし、2つ目のasは様態ではおかしくありませんか？「かつて、理解したように、現在、忘れてしまう」では日本語としておかしいと思います。私はこのasを対比としてた捉えるべきだと思いますが、どうでしょうか？ つまり、現在と過去の対比でasの意味は「彼らがかつて～あらゆることを理解した【が】」ぐらいにとるのではないかと思います。 自信があまりないので、文法に詳しい人教えてください！
