以下についてお教え頂けないでしょうか。 If we were to offer you employment, we would first invite you to our headquaters in New Delhi for a three-week training course to familiarize you with our comapany's products. (1)どうしてwe areでなくてwe wereなのでしょうか？ We wereならば非現実的な場合の表現と習ったことがありますが、この場合、 「私たちはあなたを雇用すれば」というかなり現実味の帯びた内容になっています。 それだけにわたくし混乱しております。 過去に以下を覚えたことがあります。 If I were a bird, I would fly to you. これは、非現実的なのでwereになると習っただけに質問文章が、なぜwe areでないのかが不可思議です。 ご教授頂ければ幸いです。 宜しくお願い申し上げます。

非現実的というよりは、『まだ確定してない。』と言う事でしょうね。 たとえば、３名採用する予定で、２０名を面接した。５番目の人に好印象を抱いて、「採用したらニューデリーでトレーニング受けてもらう事になるね。」と言いつつも、『確定』は、20名全員の面接が終わって、３名までに絞り込んでから決定されるので、if we were to～で、『仮定』の状態で説明しておく。 ＞If I were a bird, I would fly to you. この例文は今回の仮定とは種類が違いますね。were toを使った仮定とwereを使った仮定はちょっと違いますので、お手元の参考書なりで、ご確認ください。were toは、実現可能な仮定にも使われます。

If A were to do ... で「万一、Aが... するとしたら」と、現実味の少ない仮定の話になります。

英語のお悔やみをネットで調べると "We would like to offer our deepest sympathy."とか "We would like to extend our condolences." のように、 we, our という代名詞が使われていました。これは習慣としてweで表現するということなのでしょうか。それとも個人で出すのなら "I" にしてもいいのでしょうか。急いで手紙を出す必要に迫られています。よろしくお願いします。

Saying that you were feeling sad because we had some very good and special times last year. You said you are bitter, and those are difficult words for me to hear. I realise that you have feelings, we all do.
