People said Mr Weston would never marry again, but I saw the possibility of love. 教えていただきたいのですが、なぜ、「made the match by myself」ではなく、「made the match myself」 なのでしょうか？ 共通の知人の結婚式が無事すんだ夜の会話なのですが、なぜ、「four years ago」なのでしょうか？ 四年間にわたり、二人の恋を後押しした、と言っているのでしょうか？ どなたか、教えてはいただけないでしょうか？ よろしくお願い申し上げます。

以前byの使い方で質問させていただきましたが、 http://oshiete1.goo.ne.jp/qa3481432.html （１）A moved by B. の場合、 A was moved by B. とすべきで、 受動態かどうかを判別するには、この文章を例に挙げると、"move"した理由が"B"になるかどうかということです。 （２）I cut a paper by scissors. 次の文章、「私は、はさみで紙を切った。」は、「切った理由」が「自分の意思」で「はさみの意思」ではないので、byは使えません。 ということだったのですが、 高校時代使っていた文法の本を見ると、 （３）Ask him by telephone.（彼に電話で尋ねてみよ） （４）He went on an errand by bicycle.（彼は自転車で使いに行った） というのが例文で乗っていました。 （３）の「尋ねた」理由は電話の意思ではないし、 （４）の「行った」理由も自転車の意思ではないです。 （３）（４）は文法書に載っている例文なので正しい文と思います。 とすると、 （１）は間違いで、（３）（４）は正しいという理由がよくわかりません。

One is old, and the other is new.」 「It's 71meters tall, and 100people can sit on one of its feet.」 という、カンマの入った2つの例文があります。 それぞれのカンマをはずして 「・・・One is old and the ohter is new.」 「It's 71meters tall and 100people can・・・」 としてはダメなのですか？ また、 「About 1200years ago people carved it into a mountain by the river.」 という例文で、 1200years ago と people の間にカンマを入れて 「About 1200years ago, people carved it into a mountain by the river.」 としてはダメなのでしょうか？ どのような場合に、カンマをいれるのか？？何か約束事があるのでしたら教えてください。
