whyの挿入?
If the fat hasn't fallen off them,why, they're still fat. こよwhyにはどのような役割があるのでしょうか？よろしくお願いします。

文法的にいえばその why は副詞ではなくて間投詞に属するものです。 この場合は文中に挿入されています。 「連中の脂肪が落ちてなければ、それならまだ太ってるさ」 みたいな感じでしょうか。ちょっとおどけた感じが醸し出されている気がします。あるいは、「そんなこと、いうまでもないじゃないか」 という意味合いを含んでいるのかも。状況次第でしょうね。

いつもお世話になります。 英文でどう解釈したらよいのか分からない文が２つありますので教えていただければ助かります。 １．Why even have us if they're not going to let us do the work? →if 以下は「もし彼らがその仕事をすることを私たちに許可しなかったら」みたいな訳かと思っているのですが、これにWhy even have usをくっつけてどううまく訳すのか分かりません。 ２．He took another day off. →another day offの概念（また休んだ、みたいな感じなのでしょうか？）が分かりません。

That is, why is there anything rather than nothing? (2)Why is the Universe as it is? Some Dismiss these questions, thinking them idle. Some even think they make no sense. I believe they are both good questions. which could at least have partial answers.
