In the 1950s, a rabbit disease called myxomatosis swept across Britain. As the number of rabbits plummeted, the grass that they had once nibbled short began to grow lush and tall.

The ground's surface temperature fell--just slightly--because the tall grass screened more of the sunshine. This small drop in temperature was enough to create problems for a particular species of ant, one which relied on the warmth of the rabbit-nibbled turf.

As time went by, the ant started to disappear. As it declined, so too did a particularly beautiful species of butterfly--the large blue. The large blue's caterpillar feeds not on leaves, but on the grubs of this one species of ant.

この英文はＩｔ～that構文だと思うのですが、
so～thatの形も見られ、訳し方がよくわかりません。

look so much like an ant grub itself
（非常に一匹のアリの幼虫自身のように見える・・？芋虫がアリの幼虫を装うというようなことですか？）

アリたちが騙されて彼らの巣（そこで青い蝶の芋虫は彼らの子供たちを食べてしまうのだが）に青い蝶の芋虫を運ばされるほど、（芋虫は）非常に一匹のアリの幼虫自身のように見えるようになった・・・・？

どのように訳すのでしょうか？

＊後半は、芋虫が食べる葉っぱがなくなってしまったので、代わりにアリの幼虫を食べるようになった。芋虫は自分をアリたちの巣に持ち込ませるようにして、彼らの幼虫を更に食べるようになり、アリがいなくなってしまい、蝶も絶滅してしまった、という内容でしょうか？

前の回答を少し修正します。早とちりですみません。

「その蝶の幼虫は、アリが運んでくる餌を食べて成長する」 というように書きましたが、それは正しくありませんでした。

The large blue's caterpillar feeds not on leaves, but on the grubs of this one species of ant. とあるので、「アリの幼虫」 を食べるのだと読めます。

その蝶は葉っぱを食べない (feeds not on leaves) のです。何と 肉食系 であり、ある特定の種類のアリの幼虫だけを食べるのです。

"芋虫が食べる葉っぱがなくなってしまった"と読んでしまっていましたが、
読み間違えておりました。（not～butですね）

　it ... that ... と見るのは、それは文法の意識過剰ではないでしょうか。

　やや分かりにくいかもしれませんが、ここでは it = a particularly beautiful species of butterfly です。

　large blue という蝶の幼虫は、ある種のアリの幼虫にそっくりな姿に変化するように進化してきたのです。それが it has come to look so much like an ant grub itself という文の意味するところだと思います （「進化」 という言葉は入っていませんが、現在完了形であることから、そういうことだろうと推測されます）。

　姿がそっくりなために、アリは自分たちの幼虫だと錯覚して、それを自分たちの巣穴に運び入れてしまうのです。その蝶の幼虫はアリに餌を運んでもらって成長して、やがてその巣穴のアリを餌として食べるようになるのです。

　しかし、そのアリが減少してしまったために蝶の幼虫が育つことが出来なくなり、そしてその種類の蝶が絶滅してしまったのです。

　元々はウサギの伝染病が発端だったのですが、食物連鎖、自然界のサイクルというものを、うまく説明している内容だと思います。
