However lovely an object and however much one feels that it brings to life a figure from history,… という本の中の一文なのですが…。 コンマ以下は訳せるんですがこの部分だけが訳せません。 なんとなく意味はわかるんですが、日本語に書き出そうとすると上手く出来ないんです…。 急ぎでないので時間のある方、ぜひ教えてください。

安楽死の文章の一部です People confronted with their own death desire intimate human relationships, totally honest communication, dignity as human beings and the right to determine their own fate, just as they did when they were healthy. confrontedがうまく訳せません。いいたい事はなんとなくわかるのですが、訳が書けません。 confrontは他動詞ですが、目的語が後ろにありません。要素の移動でしょうか？

英語の長文問題で、下記の文のないようがイマイチつかめません。文全体の内容としては、海外居住者が故郷で親族とか親しい友人が死んでしまった時に直面する問題について書かれてあります。（特に、離れたところに住んでいて、自分が住んでいるところには故人の面影がないため死を現実のこととして受け入れにくい、みたいなことについて書いてあります。） 1番はじめの"Without an honest and open look at breavement and grief in expartiate communities"と"at a time when nothing feels safe or certain"いうのが特にどう訳せば良いのか分かりません。。。 和訳得意な方、宜しくお願いします！ Without an honest and open look at breavement and grief in expartiate communities, expats will continue to grieve alone. It has to be that way. A simple heartfelt "sorry" can mean so much at a time when nothing feels safe or certain. It is, in any case, infinitely better than nothing.

A year has hardly elapsed when things have come to this. 一年たつかたたぬにこの始末 A month has hardly elapsed when things have come to this! ひと月たたぬにこのていたらく when things have come to thisについて調べていたら以上のような例文がありましたが 日本語訳でも意味が分かりずらくどう解釈してよいのかわかりません。 もっとわかりやすく、英語で解釈しやすい全体の訳（特にwhen things have come to thisの解釈の仕方）などあれば教えて頂けないでしょうか？
