amazing graceの文法
amazing graceの中に出で来る歌詞のうち以下の文法が分かりません。 １．how precios did that grace appear 感嘆分ですが、形容+主語+動詞の順になっておらず訳が分かりません。didはなんなんでしょうか。 ２．his word my hope secures なぜ、名詞が続けて出てくるんでしょうか。 ３．he will my Shield and portion be , as long as life endures beは何でしょうか。 稚拙な質問ですいませんが、英語に詳しい方回答よろしくお願い致します。

英語の歌詞は文学の詩と同じように韻を踏むことが原則です。 そしてその多くは「脚韻」と言って最後の音を揃えるものです。この歌詞のように１行おきに合わせる場合が多いのですが、２～３行おきに合わせるという複雑なものもあります。 １の「appear」は実際には「appeared」だったのですが、２行上の「fear」の音と合わせるために「did ... appear」としたものです。 T'was Grace that taught... my heart to fear. And Grace, my fears relieved. How precious did that Grace appear... the hour I first believed. ２の「secures」は２行下の「endures」の音と合わせるために「His words secures my hope.」の語順を変えたものです。 The Lord has promised good to me... His word my hope secures. He will my shield and portion be... as long as life endures. ３の「be」は２行上の「me」の音と合わせるために「He will be my shiels and portion.」の語順を変えたものです。 ご参考になれば・・・。

- 感嘆文の形容詞の使い方について確認
How (sweet, sweetly) the rose smells! そのバラはなんと甘い香りがするのだろう。 という問題なのですが sweet と sweetly のどちらを入れたらよろしいでしょうか。 辞書を開いてみたのですけども、 how ＋形容詞（副詞）＋主語＋動詞＋！ となっており、どちらが入ってもよさそうな気がふとしたので質問しました。 ちなみに答えでは sweet の形容詞だったのですけど、 形容詞は名詞を修飾するので一体どこに掛かっているのですか？ smells というのは動詞だと思うので、そこにかかるのは副詞である sweetlyでは何故だめなのでしょう。 この感嘆文になったときに、何かの法則でそうなるということがあればそれも含めて教えてください。

[How dreary would be the world if there were no Santa Claus !] なんとなく訳してみると「サンタクロースがいなかったら，世界はなんて退屈なんだろう．」となりました． しかしよく見てみると[How dreary would the world]となっていますよね． 感嘆文は[How （形容詞/副詞） S V ～!]または疑問文の形で[How （形容詞/副詞） V S～!]だと聞きました． これを疑問文の形で書くとすれば[How dreary would the world be ～ !]ではないのでしょうか？ それとも仮定法過去の場合疑問文の形は[How （形容詞/副詞） would the world be ～ !]で正解なのでしょうか？

こちらでは初めて質問させていただきます。 タイトルにも書いたように、How＋形容詞の文章とThat sounds(That's)＋形容詞の文章の使い分けなどはあるのでしょうか？ 授業配布されたプリントでHow,That sounds,That’ｓのどれかを( )に埋めるという問題が出されたのですが、あまりよく解説してもらえずいまいち理解できていません。以下、プリントにある問題になります。 Did you hear that a little girl was killed by a falling tree today? (How) awful! How did it happen? この会話文でThat'sもしくはThat soundsは使えないのでしょうか？ There's been a crash on the underground and a lot of people have been injured. (That sounds) terrible. (1)There is so much worth seeing.. ↑は、見る価値のあるものがたくさんある。という意味ですが、worthは形容詞？前置詞？ worth seeing は何を修飾しているんですか？ (2)分詞構文になっているところを節にする問題で ・Having put up with it for a week,he wanted to change to a hotel. ・Not having slept well for several days,he was quite tired. ・Tired or not,he did't want to disappoint my father. がよく分かりません。過去完了なのか過去完了進行なのかただの過去なのか、という時制・as,while,when,after.. などどの接続詞を使えば良いか、についてが特に分かりづらいです。。 よろしくお願いします＞＜
