the backの意味？ ＮＨＫラジオ英会話講座より In a year or so,you'll know the journalistic terrain like the back of your hand. １年かそこらで、報道の領域がよく分るでしょう。 質問： （1）the backは手のどの部分でしょうか？掌でしょうか?「手の内を知る」と言う言葉もあります。 推測でもかまいませんので、教えていただけませんか？ （2）直訳してみました。間違いを教えて下さい。 「あなたは、あなたの手の裏（掌）のように、報道領域を知っている。」 以上

１ the back of one's hand は手の「甲」で手の平の反対側です。 know like the back of ~'s hand は、下記のように「よく知っている」という熟語です。 http://eow.alc.co.jp/know+like+back+of+hand/UTF-8/ ２。手の「甲」以外は正解です。手の平（掌）は the palm of one's hand と言います。

- It gets cold には怖気づくと言う意味があるのですか？
映画「エラゴン」のテーマ曲、Keep Holding On の歌詞なのですが、 You’re not alone Together we stand I'll be by your side, you know I’ll take your hand When it gets cold And it feels like the end There’s no place to go You know I won’t give in No I won’t give in となっています。だいたいわかるのですが、 it gets cold は「寒くなる」ではなく、「あなたが怖気づいても」 と歌詞カードには訳されていますが、そうした意味があるのでしょうか？ その下の詞が it feels like the end なので、it が指しているものが、「状況」だと考えた場合、「ぞっとする凍りつくような状況になり、限界を感じても or もうこれで終わりだと思っても」ということなんでしょうか？ それとも、気候的な意味合いで、やはり「寒くなり」なんでしょうか？ よくわからないのですが、よろしくお願いいたします。

アニメ「おさるのジョージ」が親子そろって大好きです。 主題歌の英語歌詞をNHKのサイトで見つけたのですが、 直訳するとどうなるでしょうか。 岩崎良美さんが歌われている日本語歌詞もとても良い歌詞なのですが、 原曲の英語歌詞をそのまま訳したものではないようです。 英語歌詞 You never do know what's around the bend A big adventure or a brand new friend When you're curious, like Curious George (Swing!) 'Cause I'm leavin' on a jet plane Don't know when I'll be back again Oh, babe, I hate to go. のうち、'Cause I'm leavin' on a jet planeですが、 冒頭'Cause I'mがzaimuと聞こえます。 そもそも'CauseはBecauseの省略形だと思うのですが、 ネイティブにはこれがBecause I'mとわかるのでしょうか？ わたしには歌詞を見なければ到底聞き取れません。 英語に詳しい方、ご教示ください。

I don't know what makes him tick という文を見ました。 (1)the one whoという言い方をしていますが、これだとthe oneに対する動詞がなく変に見えます。he alwaysやthe man always…などではないのでしょうか？ 上の文とは全く関係ないのですが He said pressure is more important now that ever. という記事を本日見ました。 (2)このthat everはどういう意味なのでしょうか？ よくわからなかったのであまり気にせず強調のようなものかと考えて先に進んだのですが本当はどういう意味なのでしょうか？ お願いします。

ロジャース＝ハートの「時さえ忘れて」という曲をジャズで弾きたいと思い、歌詞を調べたのですが、後半部分の意味が全く分かりません。 自分で訳せたところの訳やわからないところを書いておいたので、助けていただけないでしょうか。 I didn't know what time it was, then I met you. （あなたに逢っているときは、時間さえ忘れてしまう） Oh what a lovely time it was, how sublime it was too! （ああ、なんてすてきな時なんだ、なんて幸せなんだろう） I didn't know what day it was, you held my hand. （あなたが私の手を握った日、一日が過ぎるのを忘れてしまった？） Warm like the month of May it was and I'll say it was grand. （それは５月のように暖かく、この上なく幸せなことだった） Grand to be alive, to be young, to be mad, to be yours alone! Grand to see your face, feel your touch, hear your voice say I'm all your own! （ここのGrand to beの意味がわからないため、何を言っているのかわかりません） I didn't know what year it was, life was no prize. I wanted love and here it was shining out of your eyes. I'm wise and I know what time it is now. 後半部分は全くどうしていいかわかりませんでした。 特に最後の「 I know what time it is now. 」の部分、「私は今何時かわかる」これは、冷静になったという意味ですか？？ もう歯が立たない状況です。よろしくお願いします。

But ｔhis isn’t a shrine. 本当にわからないの。でもこれは神社ではないのよ。 A： Really? What is it then? 本当に？ じゃあ何なの？ B： It’s a Buddhist temple. これは仏教の寺院よ。 上記の中のWhat is it about this cat and shrines? この猫と神社の関係はなに？について質問します。 What is it は「何なの」という意味で、itは漠然とした状況を表すitではないかと推測しています。 直訳を試みてみると、「この猫と神社についてなに？」となり意味をなしていません。 （意訳と思われる訳の中で、aboutが「関係」と訳されているのも理解できません。） 直訳付きでこの構文解説をお願いできませんか。
