おはようございます。 直訳すると、 「今の不幸は貪欲、言い換えると、人類の進歩の様を恐れるものたちの 悪あがきが通り過ぎようとしていることにすぎない。」 という感じでしょうか。 この文でのダッシュの使い方がよくわかりませんが、コロンの代わりとして「つまり」のように訳させていただきました。

「私の解釈」で合っていると思います。「今の不幸はかりそめのもの」という説明がピッタリです。

ありがとうございます！ そうすると文構造的には、 The misery (that is now upon us)が主語 is が動詞 but the passing of greed ― the bitterness of men （who fear the way of human progress）. という感じなんですね。
