英文の文法的解説をお願いします。

surgingは動詞surge「急上昇する」の動名詞でここでは形容詞的役割をしていて、すぐ後ろの２０ points(名詞)を形容していまして、簡単に言えば、文法的には形容詞と名詞の関係になります。"walking dictionary"「生き字引」のwalkingとdictionaryの関係と一緒です。続けて訳せば「急上昇する20ポイント」という意味になります。

surging by 20 points と同じことで 20 points の部分は、本来は前置詞 by で始まる副詞句ですが、 by を省略して単なる名詞 20 points だけで副詞的に機能しています。 この省略パターンはよくあります。20 points が surge の目的語ということではありませんので注意です。 ちなみに by 20 points で上昇した「差」を表せます。

Oil climbed higher amid concerns over Libya, closing above $106 a barrel. という文章なのですが、「mixed」「30-month high」「points」「aboveの次の数字」辺りの意味や、日本のニュースらしい言い回しがわかりません。わかっている範囲は以下です。 「ウォールストリートのその日の株価は～で、原油価格は～まで大きく跳ね上がりました。 ダウ平均株価は～近くまで下落し、12319～を超えたところで終了しました。 ナスダックは～が上昇し、2781～で終了しました。 リビアの情勢を嫌気される中、原油価格は高騰し、1バレル106ドルを超えたところで終了しました。」 質問箇所以外にもベターな訳し方がある部分がございましたら、ご指摘頂ければと思います。 よろしくお願い致します。
