英検の問題で・・・
今度英検3級を取ろうと思っていて、図書館から教本を借りて勉強しているのですが、わからない部分があるので教えてください I’m sorry we lost the game ,but it’s（ ）to win against that team！ 1.correct 2.able 3.cheerful 4.impossible かっこ内に番号を入れる問題で、答えは「４」なのですが、「２」も入ると思うのです（ableは可能という意味も持っているので） ２は間違いなのでしょうか？ ４を入れて日本文にすると 「僕たちは試合に負けてしまって残念だけれど、あのチームに勝つのは不可能だよ」となるそうです。

回答は既に出ていますので、impossibleの用法について少しだけ。まだ習うのに早いかもしれませんが、質問文では、人+impossibleにはなりませんが、impossibleは人が主語になる場合もあることだけは覚えていてください。 例： John is impossible to teach. = It is impossible to teach John. Mary is impossible to please. = It is impossible to please Mary. Bob is impossible to talk to. = It is impossible to talk to Bob. これ以外にも慣用的な言い方で、You are impossible. = お前はどうしようもないやっちゃ。 参考までに

No.3です。補足があります。 なお、impossibleは人を主語にすることはできません。 例： We are impossible to win against that team.（Ｘ） 理由は、impossibleは「物事の判断」であって、人の性質ではないからです。 ご参考までに。

はじめまして。 be able to＝canです。 と言うことは、２を答えとすると、 ～, but it can win against that team! ってなりますよね？ 意味を考えてもらえば分かると思うんですが、ここで指すitって誰のこと？ってなっちゃって文章が通じなくなってしまいます。 だから正解は４で正しいのではないでしょうか。

こんばんは。 かっこの前が we are ならば、able を入れることができますが。 なお、正解の文についてですが、 it は、to win (against that team) の仮主語です。
