#11, #13 です。 まず、始めに、#11 のおまけについてお詫びいたします。原文のサイトまで行ってきました。原文は、"This is a...." となっていました。それはそれで、熱烈な推薦書評というより、 「～の内の１つの examination だ。」という表現が、客観的に感じられると言えるかもしれません。 a の基本的な使用法です。深く考えすぎずに、もっと単純に考えればよかったと反省しています。 ＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝ 問題の "the" もやはり、単純に「全て」と考えていいと思います。 --- 拙訳 --- 『これは、「ソル・ファナ」と「彼女の人生を形成したあらゆる要素」を、バランスよく、鋭い洞察で精査したものの１つです。』 ＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝ 後置修飾節が限定しきれない（他にも「彼女の人生を形成した要素」がある）と筆者が判断した場合は、 "... and (some) elements that..." と "the" を使わないはずです。 つまり、 "... and some of the elements that..." の意味になります。 ゆえに、"... and some of the elements that ... = "... and the elements that ..." は、ありえません。 やはり、"and all of the elements that" = "and the elements that" と reader が受けるしかないと思います。 ＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝ writer/speaker が、後置修飾語句で限定しないことを明確に表す場合、 He is a boy whose father is a doctor. など、たくさんあります。このように、不定の意味の先行詞（修飾語を伴っていても）で、the を使用することはありません。 These are photos of the moon that she took through her telescope during a full moon last month. 不定の photos になっているから、reader は「不定」だと判断するのです。"of the moon", "that she took ..." の２つの修飾語句が付いていてもphotos は、不定です。some photos の意味です。 ＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝ These are the photos of the moon that she took through her telescope during a full moon last month. the が使われていたら、that 以下を読む前に、簡単に納得いく「限定理由」がなければ、reader は、that 以下に「限定理由」があるだろうと思うのは、極自然なことです。that 以下で説明された photos of the moon は、これ以外にないことを示唆しています。 だけど、that 以下で説明された写真の中に、月以外の写真がある可能性はあります。また、月の写真で、that 以下の説明に当てはまらない写真がある可能性もあります。 ＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝＝ that 以下を読む前に「限定理由」が判る表現には、 He was looking up at the moon that shined very beautifully that night. などの例もあります。この場合、that 以下がなくても、"the moon" は自然に限定だと reader が判断できます。that 以下は、付加的な限定とも考えられます。 後置修飾語句に限らず前置修飾の場合でも、the は、限定で、a は、不定と考えるしかありません。 Mt. "the highest mountain = the highest of all the mountains" "a highest mountain = "one of the highest mountains" 以上、やはり、ごく単純に、全てという限定の "the" にしか思えないので……。自分自身、難しい用法を知っていても、単純な表現の時にそう受け取れないような知識では、絵に描いた餅になるとつくづく思いました。"This is a...." の反省を込めて……。
