＞last Thursdayで終わっているように見える それで結構です。 bringing to an end ～ は分詞構文ですね。 ＞何故カンマもなく カンマがあった方が分かりやすいでしょうが、読点ですから、ある程度は書き手の好みによります。 途中で息をつかずに、書き手は一気に書きたい、読み手にも一気に読んでもらいたい、ということでしょう。 「タリバンが残る三人の韓国人の人質を解放した」 「これにより」 「Ｘにけりをつけた」（bring to an end Ｘ） Ｘ＝a six-week drama「六週間に及ぶ劇的事件」 「当初の23人の捕虜のうち二人が処刑されるという」 that saw の see はいかにも英語らしい使い方ですね。
