CDを安く発売している会社の文です。 spread以降の意味が取りづらいです。 spread that recording costはレコーディング費用を広げる→もっと多くの投資をするということかなと思ったのですが、その後の「across 20,000 to 30,000 copies」というＣＤ枚数の話の部分とつながりません。この文は、どのような意味なのでしょうか。

アメリカに37年住んでいる者です。　私なりに書かせてくださいね。 ここでご質問の文章から思うに、このacrossとは何だと感じているのだと思いました。　これはspread～across～と言う表現をして、～の範囲に～を分散・撒き散らすと言う熟語的使い方をしているのですね。　 よって、20,000 to 30,000 copiesにthat recording costをspreadをすることができる、と言っているわけです。 acrossの代わりにoverと言う表現も同じように使えます。 In the mornings of summer, it is my job to spread water across the front of our house. と言うような応用もできてメールの話題にも使えますね。　今これを言うと、アメリカからはWe do the same in the winter for my kids to (ice)skate in front of the house, actually on our driveway.と言うような返事が返ってくるかもしれませんが。　＜ｇ＞ これでいかがでしょうか。　分かりにくい点がありましたら、補足質問してください。

これは商品単価と製造経費との関係を言っていますね。レコーディングに要する総費用はある一定額になったとして、それをCDのコピー枚数を多くすることにより、１枚当たりには低額にすることができます。１枚当たりの費用が低額になると、１枚当たりの販売価格が安く抑えられます。売り易くなるわけです。 spread はレコーディング費用を多くのCD に分散させるという意味です。 このようにすると、確かに、１枚当たりの販売価格は安くなるのですが、合計費用を回収するためには、それだけ多くのCDを販売しなければなりません。 こういうのをトレード・オフとも言います。
