文の構成がわかりません

適切な文を選ぶ問題でaの文が正しいのですが b,c,dの文の間違いがどこかわかりません(>_<) 文の構成もわからないので教えていただきたいのですが(>_<) a.Despite the months of training and preparation, the national team traveled halfway across the globe to face their rivals failed to reach the semifinals at the world tennis championships in Paris. b.The months of training and preparation did not reward the national team that could not reach Paris for the semifinals of the world tennis championships with their rivals, traveling half way across the glove. c.The world tennis championships at Paris failed to witness the national team, since it was beaten at the semifinals after traveling halfway across the world, facing the rivals to train and prepare for months. d.Traveling halfway across the world resulted in a failure of the national team that underwent training and preparation for months, facing the rivals at the semifinals of the world tennis championships in Paris.

こんにちは。長文があるのかどうか、長文の内容に適した答えを選ぶ、というものなのでしょうか。 4つの文章では内容がずれていて、 例えば　b. ではナショナルチームがパリでのセミファイナルの試合にライバルチームと共に行けなかった、　c.　ではナショナルチームがセミファイナルで負けたので、パリでのチャンピオンシップに彼らの姿はなかった、　d.　では地球を半周する旅程がパリでのセミファイナルのライバルチームとの試合でナショナルチームに負けをもたらした、とか、そういうような内容です。

この手の問題はあまり気がすすまないのですが、レスがつかないようなので自分がやってみます。 いろいろな説明の仕方があるでしょうが、あくまで私個人の判断の仕方のひとつです。参考にしてください。 b. the national team that could not reach Paris for the semifinals の部分まで読んでおかしいと思います。 こういう場合、that ではなくて [, which] と関係代名詞の継続用法にしないといけません。関係代名詞の限定用法と継続用法については文法書で確認してください。説明が長くなりますので。 c. The world tennis championships at Paris failed to witness the national team, と、ここまで読んでおかしいと感じます。 「パリの世界テニス選手権はその国のチームを目撃できなかった？ 」。この主語と述語の関係がおかしいです。 これが逆ならまだありそうです。 The national team failed to witness the world tennis championships ～ なら 「その国のチームはパリの世界テニス選手権を目撃することができなかった」。 これなら、「その国のチームはパリの世界テニス選手権出場の段階まで到達しなかった」という意味の比喩的表現として通りそうです。 もっとも、最初の文でも強引に解釈して「パリの世界テニス選手権はその国のチームを目撃できなかった、すなわち、パリの世界テニス選手権にはその国のチームは見当たらなかった、ということで、結局やはり、その国のチームはその選手権に出場できなかったの意味でとれると言い張ることはできなくはありません。 しかし、そういう強引な比喩、奇抜な比喩を可能にするような雰囲気はこの文全体にはありません。それほど文学的な文章ではないこの文でここだけそういう比喩を使っていると解釈するのは不自然です。 それから、後半の部分 facing the rivals to train and prepare for months が意味不明です。「何ヶ月間か練習、準備するために？ ライバルと直面して？ 」。 この to不定詞の用法が不明というか、意味がとれません。また、facing ～ の ing は分詞構文ですが、同様に意味不明です。 d. Traveling halfway across the world resulted in a failure of the national team ～ は、いきなり a failure と書いてありますが、この failure の意味が不明瞭です。どういう failure か英語ならもう少しここで具体的に語りそうです。最後まで読んでやっと the semifinals of the world tennis championships in Paris における failure だとわかりますが、もう少し文としてわかりやすく書きそうなものです。 また、その後半の facing the rivals at ～ の部分は分詞構文ですが、意味的に前の文とすんなりつながりません。 以上、意味的にすんなり通り、文法的にも間違いのないらしい a が正解ということになります。
