訳はこれでよろしいですか
英語の教科書の訳はこれでよろしいのでしょうか。 The job of proving that someone is guilty of a crime belongs to the lawyers whose job it is to show that an accused person is innocent, is called the defence. 犯罪に対して有罪ということを証明するのは、法律の専門家である検察当局がする仕事です。弁護側は罪が無いということを証明する仕事をする人達です。 すみませんが、よろしくお願いします。

補足どうもありがとうございました。これで意味が通りました。 Belong toのあとの the lawyer or lawyers を「法律の専門家」と訳したのはうまいと思います。「法律家」でもよいでしょう。 少し固い言葉でいうと「法曹」です。 もしこれを「弁護士」と訳してしまうと，かえって混乱の元ですね。 ただ，prosecutionを「検察当局」というのは，やはり組織を指すような感じがあり，「法律の専門家」という人間を指す言葉とつながりにくいので，「検察官（たち）」としてはどうでしょう。 この（たち）の用法にも注目して下さい。 一人の場合も複数の場合もあるということで，「検察官，または検察官たち」をまとめて表したものです。 直訳すれば，「検察官と呼ばれる，一人や複数の法律の専門家」ですが，「法律の専門家である検察官（たち）」のほうが多少自然な感じがします。 第2文ですが，the defenceは，これもthe lawyer(s)という人間を受けているということで，「弁護側」よりも「弁護人」がよいと思います。 また，「弁護側は罪が無いということを証明する仕事をする人達です。」と，「弁護側」が主語になっていますが，別にこれはひっくり返す必要はないでしょう。 素直に，「～～な人（たち）を弁護人と呼びます」でよいのではないでしょうか。

belongs to のあとに何か抜け落ちていませんか？ このままだと，「被告人の有罪を証明するのは，被告人の無罪を示すことが仕事である弁護士の役目です」という矛盾した意味になってしまうように思われるのですが…。 （それに，仮にその意味だとしても，No.2さんもおっしゃっているように，少し構文が妙な気がします。） それとも，検察官が定年退職した後，今度は弁護士として働く（日本でも実際に良くある話です）ということが言いたいのでしょうか。

◆この英文、おかしくない？ 最後、... innocent, which is called the defence. とかではないですか？ ◆訳について言えば、it is を「それが」と訳すのは間違いです。 whose job it is to show that ～ は関係詞を用いているため、whose job が前に出ていますが、これの元になっている英文は、 It is his job to show that ～ です。つまり it is は形式主語。 真主語が to show です。 ◆したがって、belongs to the lawyers whose job it is to show that ～ の部分についてだけ訳すと（とりあえずlawyerを法律家と訳すことにすると）、 「～を示すことが仕事である法律家の仕事です。」 という訳になります。
