1992年にアメリカのジョージ・ブッシュ大統領（父親の方のブッシュ大統領）が日本で倒れたことがありましたが、そのとき私は子どもで、テレビのニュース番組だったと思いますが、アメリカにいる日本のテレビの記者が、アメリカ市民たちに、「ブッシュ大統領が日本で倒れたのをご存知ですか？」と聞いていたのですが、まだそのニュースがアメリカで広く報道されていなかった様子で、聞かれたアメリカ人たちが、みんな 「Are you kidding？」 と言ったのを覚えています。 みんがが「Are you kidding？」と同じ文章を言ったのは、 「Are you kidding？」というのは、アメリカでは、「いただきます」とか「召し上がれ」とかと同じような「決り文句」なのでしょうか？

As far as GW Bush, no I was not on his side at all! I didn't vote for him, and I do not agree with the war in Iraq. I also watched the Bush/Kerry compaign, but many people said the only reason Bush won was that the democrats had such a weak candidate. Now, the Republicans are the majority in most of the government offices. たびたび質問させてもらってる者です。 これはアメリカ人からのメール返事なんですけど前の手紙で私がブッシュを支持しましたか？と質問したらこんな返事が返ってきました。 解らないところを詳しくかくと but many people said the only reason Bush won was that the democrats had such a weak candidate. Kennedy in 1960 presidential election, but in 1968 presidential election, he defeated Humphrey and was elected president. 1960年の選挙でジョン・F・ケネディに敗れたが、ヒューバートH.ハンフリーを破り、大統領に選出された。 ⇨1960 presidential election と 1968 presidential election ２回同じ言葉が続くのですが、不自然ではないでしょうか？ 省略できるか不明だったので、一応文章に入れました。 ＞Richard Nixon was defeated by John F. Kennedy in 1960 presidential election, but in 1968, he defeated Humphrey and was elected president. ＝これでも問題ないでしょうか？ あと、他におかしい英文があれば直して欲しいです。

単純な質問なのですが・・・ アル・ゴア氏のインタビューを雑誌で読んでいたら、ブッシュ大統領のことに関して、 "I didn't vote for Bush. I didn't think he should be president." という発言がありました。ふとおもったのですが、これってどうして時制の一致が見られないのでしょうか? どなたがお詳しい方、教えていただければ幸いです・・・
