とある小説からの引用です。 He looked at Evans for reassurance.he would have rushed from the studio and signed on with the first freighter he bumped into,had he not believed it his duty to stand by and take the blame. ※had he not believed it his duty to stand by and take the blame.の意訳 その場に踏みとどまり、責任を取ることが自分の責務だと心得ていた なぜ「had he not believed」の意訳が心得るになるのか理解できません。notがあるので意訳とは間逆の「信じていないor思っていない」等の翻訳が適切ではないのでしょうか？

こんにちは。 Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix [UK, adult版] p.444真ん中あたりの文に関してです。 ロンのクイディッチデビューの日の朝のロンの様子を書いた英文です。 'Harry was reminded forcibly of the time Ron had accidentally put a Slugvomitting Charm on himself; he looked just as pale and sweaty as he had done then, not to mention as reluctant to open his mouth.' この英文の後半部分、'not to mention as reluctant to open his mouth'日本語訳では「口を開きたがらないところまでそっくりだ。」とあるのですが、なぜこういう訳になるのでしょうか？どういう風に英文解釈すればよいのでしょうか？ 参考までにその前の文は「ちょうどあの時と同じように、ロンは蒼ざめて冷汗をかいている。」となっております。この文は「as～as」 文で納得がいくのですが… 教えてください。 よろしくお願いします。

３つほど質問です (1)If argument is silenced,not only may error flourish unrestrained,but truth itself is held in a feebler and less vital manner. この一文なのですが、flourish の後ろに形容詞がきているのですが、辞書をひいても、flourishは補語をとらない（２文型をとらない）と思うのですが講義では倒置でＳＶＣと解釈してました。 (2)the man had done something unintelligible with the brick ,subsequent to which he walked away この一文のsubsequent to...の箇所ですが、subsequent toを前置詞(=after)と解釈し、前置詞＋関係詞とみなすということみたいなんですが、subsequentに前置詞の用法がないのですが＾＾； (3)We walked off the farm for good just after christmas,the year Patrick and I turned fourteen. christmas,the year Patrick and I turned fourteen. とありますが、ここはどう解釈したらよいのでしょうか？ the yearを接続詞（関係副詞の省略）ととると自分は解釈しましたが直訳が変な気がします。 ちなみに訳では ～１４歳になった年のクリスマス直後に とthe year以下の内容がchristmasを修飾してます。
