Here today as in every capital city, speculation is to the full significance of the events and Czechoslovakia is not confined to cabinet meetings or embassy conference rooms. 1938年パリからのニュース放送の一部です。この後に、ヒトラーとズデーデン地方について触れているので、そのような情勢についてのニュース放送だと思うのですが、どのような意味になりますでしょうか。よろしくお願いいたします。

＃１です。急に野暮用で慌てて出しましたので １。あの出来事で、自国の政治に関わる閣僚や、外から様子を伺いに来ている外国公館だけでなく、一般市民にも噂が広がっています。 と言うことでしょう。 ２。ひょっとすると出来事の場所がチェッコスロヴァキアなら、and は in かも知れません。

「今日ここに、すべての首都に起こりうべきこととして、疑念は最も重大な局面に達し、チェコスロバキアは閣僚ミーテイングや外交会議の器にに留められなくなった。」 この文はおそらくナチスドイツが当初チェコスロバキアの反撃にいったんは侵攻を踏みとどまったものの、作戦変更をして、チェコスロバキアを非難する声明を欧州全体の課題としてラジオ、映画で宣伝した内容かと思います。

本日こちらでは、どこの首都でも同じように、この出来事とチェッコスロヴァキアがどんなに重要かと言う思惑ばかりで、それは（政府の）閣議室とか（外国）大使館の会議室に限られていません。

Briand's reduced War Cabinet was formed in imitation of the small executive body formed by Lloyd George, just appointed Prime Minister of Britain, but in practice Briand's often met just prior to meetings of the main Cabinet. Painlevé declined the job of War Minister as he would have preferred Petain as commander-in-chief rather than the inexperienced Nivelle. Like President Poincaré Briand had thought Petain too cautious to be suitable. Nivelle's appointment caused great friction between the British and French high commands, after Lloyd George attempted to have Haig placed under Nivelle's command at the Calais Conference in January. Briand only reluctantly agreed to attend another allied conference in London (12–13 March 1917) to resolve the matter. Briand resigned as Prime Minister on 20 March 1917 as a result of disagreements over the prospective Nivelle Offensive, to be succeeded by Alexandre Ribot. 1920s Briand returned to power in 1921. He supervised the French role in the Washington Naval Conference of 1921–22.

日本のソフトボールが大金星で金メダル！！という記事を読んでいて、少し気に掛かった表現があります（読売新聞のサイトです）。 引用： Right-hander Yukiko Ueno pitched out of two bases-loaded jams to lead Japan in the sports' final appearance as the Olympics. 「上野投手は、２度の満塁のピンチを脱する好投で、オリンピック正式種目としては最後となるこの競技で、チームを鼓舞した」というような内容でしょうけど、気になるのは"as"です。 なぜ in ではないのでしょうか。as だと、なんとなく"as one [part] of the Olympics"としたくなるようなところですが、それも変ですか？あるいは、スポーツ記事にふさわしくない間延びした感じになるので、"as the Olympics"と省略的な書き方をした……？ ついでに、sports'は、sport'sではないのでしょうか。誤植っぽいですが、あえて複数形にしているのでしょうか？ ちなみに、USA TODAYの記事では、"[…] beaten 3-1 by Japan in the sport's last appearance in the Olympics" という書き方が見られました。

Contemporary events differ from history in that we do not know the results they will produce. Looking back, we can assess the significance of past occurrences and trace the consequences they have brought in their train. But while history runs its course, it is not history to us. The reason is that it leads us into an unknown land but rarely can we get a glimpse of what lies ahead. Things would be different if we were allowed to live a second time through the same events with all the knowledge of what we have seen before. If so, how different would things appear to us, how important and often alarming would changes seem that we now scarcely notice! It is therefore, probably fortunate that man can never have this experience and knows of no laws which history must obey. （質問）trace the consequencesの意味が分かりません。「結果をたどる」という訳らしいですが、自分にはこれが何のことを表しているのかさっぱりです。どなたか説明をお願いいたします。
