- Sales increase/riseやSales decrease/drop/fallといった表現でbyを使うことについて疑問を持っています。
- また、extend A byやextend A a weekといった表現においてなぜbyを使用するのか疑問が生じました。英語でそれが出てきても無視して扱うことができるのでしょうか？

英語の表現でなせここでbyを使うんですか？ までに、とでも訳すんですか？なんか変です。以下でbyが使われます。 ◯%パーセント上昇下降 ・Sales increase/rise by 5% 売上が5%上昇する。 ・Sales increase/rise by every 5% 売上が5%づつ毎に上昇する。 ・Sales decrease/drop/fall by 5% 売上が5%下降する。 ・Sales decrease/drop/fall by every 5% 売上が5%づつ毎に下降する。 ・extend A by a week Aを一週間延長する ・extend A a week Aを一週間に延長する ・extend A one more week Aをもう一週間延長する 試しにbyなしで、 increase とdecreaseは翻訳アプリで訳してみたらなんも問題ありませんでした。 しかし、extend は微妙に違ってました、、翻訳アプリの間違い！？別になしでも通じるしなんの問題もないんですか？あえていうなら英語でそれが出てきても無視して扱えばよいという事ですか？ なんだか気になるので質問してみました。詳しい方教えてください。

すみません、#2 で反対の回答をしてしまいました。 extend A a week は、A が ５日間 の場合だと、A → 1 week になります。 extend A by a week の場合は、５日間に１週間が加わりますから、5 days + 7 days = 12 days ということになります。 また、extend A one more week だと、やはり extend A by a week と同じことになります。

> extend も自動詞、他動詞とかの考えによるものですか？ まさにその通りです。 例として示しておられる extend A by a week の場合、その A がたとえば５日間ということなら、それを １週間 に 「延長する」 わけです。その場合は 自動詞 ですね。 ところが、extend A a week の場合は、A がたとえば５日間ということなら、その５日間という時間の長さが 5 days + a week = 5 + 7 days = 12 days に なります。この場合は 他動詞 としての用法ですね。

> Sales increase/rise by 5% increase もしくは rise という動詞が、ここでは 自動詞 としての働きをしているからです。by がなければ 他動詞 として働きますから、5% が 目的語 になってしまいます。すると、「5% を拡大する/上昇させる」 ということになってしまいます。ある量 X が 5% 増加する ことによってその X は 105% になるわけで、その増加の程度を示すのに by という前置詞が用いられています。

こんにちは。 下記の文章内のdurable valueの訳し方で困っています。 Product Ａ drove its business with a 15 % sales rise, showing its durable value in the company’s portfolio. durableは長く続く、とか持続力があるとかそういった意味のようなのですが・・ 私は、 「製品Ａの売上が15％伸びてビジネスを後押しし、同社のポートフォリオで長期に渡り力強くその価値を示し続けている。」 と訳したのですが、イマイチ自信がありません。 宜しくお願い致します。
