> You remember that line of Robert Burns about seeing ourselves as others see us? その文における about ... は 「～について、～に関して」 という意味。 すると that line of Robert Burns about ... は 「～についてのロバート・バーンズの (書いた) 文句 (詩句)」 ということになります。 about は前置詞なので、その次に現れるのは名詞であるはずです。about seeing ... の see は動詞なので、seeing が動名詞であるのは明らかです。seeing ourselves で 「わたしたちを見ること」 という意味になる。 次の as は接続詞で、ここでは 「～のように」 という意味を担っています。従って、as others see us で 「他人がわたしたちを見るように」 となります。 まとめると 「他人が (わたしたちを) 見るような眼差しで、(わたしたちが) わたしたち自身を見る、というロバート・バーンズの (書いた) 詩句を覚えてる？」 ということです。 なお、その詩句はロバート・バーンズの "To a Louse" という詩の中に出てくる文句です。
英文法知識がないので、構文はわかりませんが、意味は 他の人が我々を見ているように我々自身を見つめることについて・・・ という意味です。about seeing ourselves までで 我々自身を見つめることについて・・・となり、ではどの様に見つめるのかというと他の人が我々を見ているのと同じように・・・ という事です。

文法の選択問題の １．The teacher suggested (me to, for me to, that I)see him. ２．Will you please take steps to (care, keep, make, see) that this doesn't happen again. などが正解できませんでした。 例えば「動詞＋人＋that」、「動詞＋人＋of」などいろいろな構文がありますが、 各動詞が取りうる構文について体系的に詳しく、分かりやすく説明してある参考書やＨＰを教えていただきたいのすが？

接続詞 that の場合は形式主語構文で、関係代名詞、関係副詞の that の場合は強調構文だと思うのですが、以前、「省略できる場合は～、できない場合は～」と教わり納得したことがあります。しかし、どちらの場合も省略できる場合があるような気がして～！どなたかお教えいただけませんでしょうか？ It was too bad that you couldn't come.（形式主語構文） Who is it that you see.（強調構文） これらの文章はいずれも that は省略可ですよね！

Whether it is a textbook, a business plan, or an article that interests you, don’t let lack of comprehension of one part discourage you from reading the other parts. 以前、質問させていただいた文なんですが、it is～thatこの部分が強調構文だと理解？は出来たのですが、あらためて参考書を見ると、 「本文のように、It is a 物を表す名詞 that 名詞の欠落した文の場合は、強調構文ではありません。ただし、本文ではitの指すものがないので強調構文と考える」 この部分がわかりません。 いつも、強調構文か形式主語構文か見分けるには、it is～thatの～が名詞か形容詞か副詞かで見分けています。 a 物を表す名詞なので、形式主語構文になるとはわかるのですが、本文のitの指すものがないと書いてありますが、interests youを入れて形式主語構文とは考えられないのですか？ 教えてください。
