「～するために、～するように」という目的を表わすのに 単純には不定詞を使って、to ～とか in order to ～とすればいいのですが、 今回のように、you という主語に対して「私が～するように」としたい場合、 (in order) for me to ～とするほかに、 so that I 動詞 とすることができます。 この so that の後には、口語的にはおっしゃるように can や will を使うのが普通です。 can で「～できるように」とするとぴったりきます。 これを、かたい英語では may を使うのです。 今から数十年前は so that ... may で熟語のように覚えたものです。 おまけで、can や will も使う、みたいに習いましたが、 今では can/will の方が主役になって、may はあまりやらないかもしれません。 （かたい英語では may などとはなっていると思います） この may 自体には特に意味があるわけでなく、so that ... may と習ってきましたが、 may の原義的には（might に「力」という意味があり、mighty などの語があるように） 「できる」という意味があることに関係しているかもしれません。
