下記質問で疑問に思ったことがあるので教えてください。 http://oshiete1.goo.ne.jp/kotaeru.php3?q=847837 質問の英文は下記になります。 「A picture by Francesco Maffe,representing a handsome young woman with a sword in her left hand, and in her right a plate on which rests the head of a beheaded man,has been acknowleged as a portrait of Salome with the head of St,John the Baptist.」 質問1 in her right a plate on which rests the head of a beheaded manの部分ですが、restsの主語は”a handsome young woman”でしょうか”Francesco Maffe”でしょうか？ 質問2 上記の関係代名詞では主語が省略されていますが、文法的には誤りと考えてよいでしょうか？ 質問3 上記関係代名詞が文法的に誤りと考えた場合でも、英文としては、restsの主語は文脈から十分に判り普通に使われる問題の無い文（表現の仕方）と考えてよいでしょうか？ 以上よろしくお願い致します。

質問１ the head of a beheaded manがrestsの主語です。 on which 以下が倒置になっています。 質問２ 主語はthe head of a beheaded manなので ＳＶで完結した文です。 ただし、倒置でＶＳになっています。 省略はされていません。 質問３ 詩的もしくは文語的な表現といえます。 ネイティブならば文脈から意味が取れると思います。 問題はありません。 日本語で言えば 「その皿の上に、首座る斬られたおとこの」 のようないささか古風でうた的な表現に訳せると思います。

rests の主語は、the head of a beheaded manですね。 関係詞が導く節の中で、主語と述語が逆転して、倒置になっています。 ～on which the head of a beheaded man rests～というのが、元の形です。 restには、「横たわっている、そこにある」というような意味があるので、お皿について関係詞を使って「首を切られた人の首が載っているお皿」と説明しているのです。 それにしても、気味の悪い絵・・・と思ってしまいました。

A little girl was near death ,victim of a disease from which her younger brother had miraculously recovered two years before. という英文なのですが、from whichにとまどっています。 これは関係代名詞ですか？ 主語がどこからどこまでで、とか文法的なことがよくわかりません。 （幼い少女は死が迫っており、病気の犠牲となった彼女の弟は2年前に奇跡的な回復を遂げた）

She was still young, though she vaguely thought of herself as past her prime. think of A as B のBには名詞が入るのではないかと思うのですが、as past her prime のpastは動詞のように使われています。慣用表現なのでしょうか。

Which was more annoying, her plan lacking in lucidity, or that salacious photo with an eyeful woman undulating her body? Or mendacious IDs she'd come by to get past the censor net closing in, or peculating endless amount of resources at her own will? 上の文で筆者が何を言いたいのかおぼろげに理解できるのですが... "closing in" のところが意味不明です。どう解釈できますか？
