大きな意味の違いはないと思います。 aroundはonよりも、許容範囲の広い言葉。正確に言えば、「地肌の色に近い色に基づいて・・・」ということになるでしょうか。 それに対してonは「地肌と（全く）同じ色に基づいて・・・」というニュアンスになると思います。
