英文で気になるところがあるので教えてください。 １）He was called out of town「彼は呼ばれて町を離れた」と訳にありましたが、calledとoutで一回区切るんですか？文法的にそんなことしていいのでしょうか？ ２)Millions of people think they are good simply because they are actively doing no harm. they are actively doing no harmの部分なんですが、危害を加えることはしないという意味ですよね。 なぜnoを使うのでしょうか？ they are not actively doing harm.とかではだめなのでしょうか？ 教えてください。よろしくお願いします。

call O to 原形で「O に～するように呼ぶ，電話する」です。 この to 原形の代わりに out of town という表現を置くことで 「O に町から出るように呼ぶ，電話する」を表すことができます。 これの受身で，直訳は「彼は町から出るように呼ばれた」です。 これを前から訳しているだけです。 そういう日本語で訳すためであり，日本語レベルの問題です。 aren't と動詞を否定してもいいのですが， 英語では no ～をよく用います。 I have no brothers. ＝ I don't have any brothers. 英語では名詞を否定しますが，日本語にはないので， 動詞を否定するように訳すしかありません。 英語ではこういう表現がある，ということです。

１）こういった形容詞は日本語的な解釈で行動、様態を表す訳になることがあります。 ２）noは「一つもない」という状況を表しており、they are actively doing no harmというのは「全く危害を加えていない」となります。
