英文の訳についての疑問
- 次の英文の訳について疑問があります。1. The ship set sail from Bristol Harbor. 2. Fro many days things went smoothly. 3. He climbed into a barrel to get himself an apple. 4. Hidden from sight, he heard Long John and pirates plotting to take over the ship.
- 1の文について、「set sail」を「帆を据え付ける」と訳しましたが、正しいでしょうか。また、3の文について、「into」を「に」と訳しましたが、適切な訳でしょうか。

1The ship set sail from Bristol Habor. 船はブリストル船着場で帆を据え付けた。 2Fro many days things went smoothly. 何日もスムーズに進んだ。 3He climded into barrel to get himself an apple. かれはりんごをとるため樽によじ登った。 4Hidden from sight,he heard Long Jhon and pirates plotting to take over the ship. 視野から隠れて、かれは船を奪うためにロングジョンと海賊たちが企んでいるのを聞いた。 と言う文を訳したのですがあっているでしょうか。一番自身がないのは１の文で「set sail」を（帆を据え付ける）と訳したのですが、どうしても変な気がしてなりません。そして３の文の「into」が「中に」とか「中」という意味ですが、どうしても不自然だったので「に」と訳したのですが、あっているのでしょうか。英文に詳しい方がいましたらぜひ教えてください。お願いします。

よく分っておられる方だと思います。そして、たしかに 1. の解釈は正しいとはいえません。 set sail は 「出帆する」 という意味だからです。下記の辞書ページなどご参照下さい。 → http://ejje.weblio.jp/content/set+sail+for それから、3. ですが、climb into は into という前置詞があるので、何かの内部に入るのではないかと思います。ですから climded into barrel は 「樽の中にもぐりこんだ」 みたいな意味ではないでしょうか。 → http://ejje.weblio.jp/content/climb+into

英語を勉強しています。文は次の通りです。 １The treasure was buried on an island 2Jim and his friends decide to search for it. 3In the seaport town of Ｂristol the spuire hired captain 4The captain would undertake the sea voyage in his ship the Hispaniola 訳は １宝は島に埋められていた。 ２ジムとは親友たちは島に向かい探索しようときめていた。 ３ブリストル港湾都市の権力者がスモレット船長を雇いいれた。 ４船長はヒスパニオラで船の航海を進めるはずだった。 となりました。特に「seaport」の訳が「港湾都市」であっているのか不安でした。そして「sea voyage」も自身がありませんでした。次に３番の文の訳す順番はあっているのでしょうか。4番の文の訳す順番も不安で訳に「his ship」を加える事ができませんでした。詳しいかたおしえてください。

英語を勉強しているものですが、次のように何とか訳したのですが、ちょっと納得のいかない箇所もあるので、詳しい方できれば教えてください。問題の文は [1]In the woods Jim met Ben Gun an old man the pirates had left on the island years ago. 木々の中で、ジムは昔島に置き去りになった、年老いた海賊のベンガンに出合った。 [2]Ben glad to have someone to talk to. ベンは話相手がもててうれしかった。 [3]He told Jim all about his row boat his cave and the food he ate to survive. かれはにほら穴や漕ぎ舟など全てを教えた。そして 生きるための方法も。 と言う訳になったのですがあっているでしょうか。ちょっと疑問に思ったのは [1]の文なのですが、先ずBen Gun an old man the prratesを先行詞にして関係代名詞にしたほうがいいのではないでしょうか？つまり「Jim met Ben Gun an old man the pirates who had left on the island yars ago?」とする方がいいと思います。それともこの場合関係代名詞「who」は省略できるのでしょうか？教えてください。 [2]の文は直訳すると「talk to(話しかける）」と「have someone(誰かをもつ）」だったので二つをあわせて「話相手」と訳してみたのですが変でしょうか。 [3]の文では「the food he ate to survive」の訳がどうしても上手く出来ませんでした。直訳すると「食べ物は彼は生きるために食べた。」としか訳せず推測して「生きるための方法」と訳してしまったのですが変でしょうか。この文法に詳しい方おしえていただければ幸いです。 以上なのですが、時間に余裕のある方で教えてくださる方がいればうれしいです。お願いします。

Many people of the Indus Valley had made the trip before,and some of them had probably settled there to live.The captain most likely would have contacted a merchant originally from the Indus Valley to help convert Mesopotamian weights and measures and interpret for his Akkadian-speaking customers. The people of southern Mesopotamia may have paid for some of their goods with fine embroidered woolen shawls and blankets.They might also have traded in silver from Anatolia,which was widely used in Mesopotamia,and perhaps even in the more valuable gold bangles from Egypt.These simple,round bracelets were a convenient way to measure and carry gold,and could be melted down and made into other objects. On the slower return journey,the captain stopped at Dilmun,the island that today is called Bahrain,and traded Mesopotamian silver and textiles for pearls from the Persian Gulf.He also stopped at Magan,in what is now Oman,for copper and large,heavy seashells. Finally,around the beginning of June,the captain would have seen the long red flag at the top of his mast begin to flap in the southwesterly winds.That meant it was time to set sail and catch the winds before the monsoon became too strong.After filling the water pots,he and his crew headed east to the mouth of the Indus and the Gulf of Kutch.The whole trip took almost five months,but he was coming home with a ship full of valuable things that he could sell for a good profit in Dholavira and up the Indus River at Mohenjo Daro.
