「何曜日にあなたは家に帰りますか」を英語で書くときは What day do you go back home? と言う翻訳をよく見かけます。 しかし、what day は名詞なので、”on” が必要だと思ったのですがどうでしょうか？例えば、 On what day do you go back home? What day do you go back home on? であるべきだと思いました。 しかし、あまりこの書き方は見かけないように思います。 （肯定文の例：You go back home on Friday.） あるいは、“what day” は副詞として使えるということでしょうか？

Whatever we find when we travel is only what we had inside us all along. という文で、 私はonlyを「～だけ」という形容詞として捉えたのですが 、訳を見たところ「～にすぎない」という意味で、 恐らく副詞だと思うんですが、私の訳とは異なっていました。 そこで皆さんにお聞きしたいのは、 ・関係代名詞のwhatの直前に形容詞が来てwhatを修飾することができるのでしょうか？ ・whatの前から修飾できない場合、onlyが名詞の前ではなかったら「～にすぎない」の意味で使われていると考えていいのでしょうか。 よろしくお願いします。

こんにちは。 よろしくお願いします。 「机の上には何がありますか。」という時、ふつう中学校では What is on the desk?って書きますよね。 私もそう習ったんですけど、先日子供が What is there on the desk?と書いていました。 thereは不特定のものがあるときに使用するので文法的には間違っていない気がしますが このような表現は辞書にも教科書にも参考書にものっていませんでした。 What is there on the desk?は中学生の英作文として正解なんでしょうか。
