According to a 1997 study by the Conference Board and the Points of Light Foundation, 74% of businesses focus their volunteer programs on education as compared with 47% on health, 41%on the environment, and 41% on the homeless. 74% of businesses が主語 focus は動詞ですか?? どうすると後の文の解釈がわからないんです。 comparedが動詞ですか?? そうするとその前のas は何なんでしょうか。 訳ができません。 よろしくお願いします。

After the fall of the Roman Empire, there was great confusion again. Each region developed its own system of weights and measures. The foot, which was one of the earliest units, is believed to have had as many as 280variations in Europe as late as the eighteenh century. It was not until toward the end of the eighteenh century that a really scientific system of weights and measures was set up.A group of French scientists chose as their unit of length the ten-millionth part of an imaginary line running through Paris from the Equator to the North Pole. After careful measurements, they worked out the length of this unit, which was given the name 'meter' derived from the Greek metron, meaning 'a measure.' The use of the metric system by other nations increased, and today the metric system is quite generally accepted worldwide as the best system of weights and measures that the world has ever had.

英語の訳がうまくいきません・・・・。 以下の英文はどう訳しますか?? 特に中間が複雑です お願いします!! Hill farming contained most of what remained of the sectoral fallow system. All crops were tuberous. In other parts of the Andes an anciently domesticated grain plant, canihua (Chenopodium pallidicaule) was also grown in the highest land, as high as 4500 m in southern Peru and Bolivia (Sauel 1933:33-35). The potato was overwhelmingly dominant, with ulluco, oca (oxalis tuberose), and mashua (Tropaelum tuberosum) in lesser quantity. In the Paucartambo valley alone there were 79 potato landraces and 5 of ulluco. Some landraces were limited to the upper zone. High altitude potato landraces are frost resistant and bitter and are processed by freezing and drying. Other landraces have a much wider altitudinal range. Hill farming land was normal prepared by hoeing the soil into high beds, breaking the sod with the Andean foot plow, the chakitaklla, and pulverizing the clods by hand. Fallowing was normal practice, enduring up to 7 years. Small livestock grazed during the fallow period, the manure being added by folding the livestock on intended field sites at night. Whereas the sectoral fallow formerly separated crops from livestock, and farmers still grouped their field together to facilitate protection in the 1980s; some fenced their field, an added labor.

Grignard reagent A Grignard reagent is prepared by the reaction of magnesium metal with an organohalogen compound in an ether solvent. An ether solvent is necessary for the formation of the Grignard reagent. It is thought that the unshared electrons of the oxygen coordinate with the Mg to stabilize the organometallic compound. Also, the alkyl portion of the ether provides a hydrocarbon-like solvent for the organic part of the Grignard reagent. Both these factors result in Grignard reagents being soluble in ethers. Diethyl ether is the usual solvent because it is inexpensive. Other ethers, such as tetrahydrofuran, can also be used. Grignard reagents are extremely strong bases that react with acids, alcohols, amines, water, and even such weak acids as alkynes with a terminal triple bond (RC≡CH, pKa 26). In these reactions, the R of RMgX removes a proton from the acidic compound and becomes an alkane (RH). Because acid-base reactions are very rapid compared to other organic reactions, a compound with a removable H+ quickly destroys a Grignard reagent. Therefore in carrying out a Grignard reaction, we must use scrupulously dry glassware, solvents, and reagents. In addition, the reagents must not contain a group with a reactive hydrogen unless an alkane is the desired product. In the reaction with a carbonyl compound, the organic portion of a Grignard reagent acts as a strong nucleophile and attacks the partially positive carbonyl carbon to yield a magnesium alkoxide. Subsequent treatment of the alkoxide with aqueous acid yields the alcohol itself.

経済英語なのですが、冷やかし無しでお願いします・・。簡単な感じでも大丈夫です・・。 At the same time, by carefully and explisitly comparing the separate chronoligical stories with one another and then with similar developments in other great industrial companies, these stories can become more than mere case studies in the meeting and solving of administrative problems resulting from growth. They can provide otherwise unobtainable information essential to the understanding of the history of one of the most significant of today's institutions. Such a comparative and institutional study of American business would seem to have some real advantages over the more traditional histories of individual firms or the more general surveys of the American business economy. Not only does it permit an analysis of significant decisions in far greater depth and detail than is possible even in a multivolume history of a single great company, but it also makes it possible to relate these detailed analyses more clearly and more precisely to broader historical developments. On the other hand, complex decisions, actions, and events are not taken out of context and presented as mere illustrations as they would have to be in a general history of American business or of the American economy. They are not used to illustrate generalizations; they are the date from which the generalizations are derived.

The 500,000 Russian casualties during the offensive, culminating in the battle of Kowel "finished Russia as an active participant in the war" with its consumption of men and resources. The battle also had a far reaching impact on Austria, as it illustrated the country's reliance on Germany as well as deprived the nation of large numbers of fighting men. Romania, relying on a Russian success during the conflict, was overrun by Austria-Hungary, Germany and Bulgaria shortly after Russia's defeat. With the armed forces of both Germany and Austria-Hungary losing confidence in their monarchs as a result of the engagement, and with its effective removal of Russia from the war, the battle of Kowel remains one of the most influential of the war.

"Ward's Force" was formed with corps cavalry, cyclists and two batteries of field artillery, two sections of engineers, a battalion of infantry from the 48th Division on 22 March as a precaution after cavalry was forced out of Poeuilly and neighbouring villages by a counter-attack and the corps cavalry relieved by the 5th Cavalry Division. The villages were reoccupied next day. The German retirement from the R. III Stellung had begun on 19 March when Nurlu and Bertincourt were occupied by the British after slight pressure. British infantry and cavalry were finding greater German resistance. After a pause until 26 March, Ward's Force captured Roisel with an infantry company, two cavalry squadrons and two armoured cars; Canadian cavalry took Equancourt. The cavalry advanced again on 27 March and took Villers Faucon, Saulcourt and Guyencourt "with great dash". An attempt at a swifter pursuit by French cavalry and cyclists on 22 March failed, when they were forced back over the Crozat canal by a German counter-attack, with many casualties.
