以前の the diamond cutter のときにも説明した Rice is the staple food in Japan. あたりの the でしょうか。 http://okwave.jp/qa/q5835174.html ここでも申し上げた通り、the というのはすべて限定の the に行き着きます。 あえて言うと、just によって限定となるのかもしれません。 just the man で「まさしくその人、ちょうどその人」 the right person「うってつけの人」などもそうですが、right は最上級的に 「もっとも適切な」という感覚がありますので the がつきます。 ただ一人いるはずの人。 実際に、そういう人は一人とは限りませんが、いるはずの一人を念頭においている。 今回は、初出で「知っていた」と述べているわけですから、the をつけると 私がいつも言っている「先付けの the」になりかねません。 しかし、ここではそうではありません。 こんな時に助けてくれる、頼りになる、まさにうってつけの男がいる。 最上級に the がつく、序数に the がつくのと同じで、 初出の段階で特定だとイメージされています。 限定の the を何かによって限定されていると考えるのでなく、 ある状況で一人しかいないはずの人と考えてください。 He is the manager who recently got the position. のような the なら who 以下によって限定されていますが、 He is the manager. 「彼が責任者です」だと一人しかいないはずの責任者。
