過去形について
過去形について I do enjoy being a backpacker to travel around and a lot of other things. 上記の文内の enjoy を過去形にしていたら、現在形に訂正をうけました。 backpackerは過去のことと前文で明記しています。なぜ現在形にしなくてはいけないのでしょうか。 ご教示宜しくお願いします。

ご質問の「過去形にしていたら」というのは I do enjoyed being a backpacker to travel around and a lot of other things. となっていた、という意味でしょうか。そうでしたら単なる文法の間違いです。 I enjoyed being a backpacker to travel around and a lot of other things. でしたら現在形にする必要は別にないと思います。 上記の文の過去形なら I did enjoy being a backpacker to travel around and a lot of other things. が正しいと思います。

When a friend cries in the course of intense conversation, we know among other things that a serious demand is being placed upon our attention: tears demand a reaction. 上の文で、後半の we know among other things that a serious demand is being placed upon の文法的・語彙的なものがイマイチ分かりません。 「（泣いている人からは）マジメな要求が発せられているのだが、それはリアクションを取ることだ。」 というような大雑把な意味は分かるのですが、 １、「among other things」という言葉があることでどういった意味とニュアンスになるのか。そして何を指しているのか。 ２、be placed upon の正確な意味 の二つがはっきりと分かりません。 お願いします。

過去分詞で始まる分詞構文は、過去分詞の前にbeingが省略されているといわれています。 例えば、（Being) Made of wood, the house burnt down in a moment.という感じです。 しかしながら、どうしてbeingは省略されてしまうのでしょうか。これが省略されなければ、分詞構文は現在分詞出始めるのが基本という形で文法規則もわかりやすくなると思うのです。 どうしてbeingは省略されてしまうのか。その謎をわかりやすく説明してください。どうしてなのでしょうか。教えてください。

My boyfriend and I enjoy different things to the extent that the way we like to spend our weekends, holidays, and even evenings is very different.
