agoの代わりにearlierを使うことはありますか。
Two years earlier,and only two weeks before her marriage,the young woman's twin sister died suddenly and mysteriously. この文の"Two years earlier"のところがどういう意味か分かりません。 "Two years ago"ならば、 "二年前の彼女の結婚の二週間前に、その若い女性の双子の妹（姉）は突然の不可解な死を遂げた。" となると思うのですが、"Two years earlier"だと、どういう意味になるのでしょうか。

two years ago は現在を起点として２年分遡った時間を指します。 two years earlier は過去または未来の任意の時点を起点としてそこから２年分遡った時間を指します。例えば「その２年前」等のように訳せます。ですから、 「その２年前、これは彼女の結婚のほんの２週間前ということになるが、その若い女性の双子の姉（妹）は突然謎の死を遂げた。」 という感じでしょうか。この文よりも前に過去に起こった別の出来事が記述されており、それが２年という年数を遡ってカウントするための起点になると想像されます。

ago ですと、今から前ですが、earlier than A moment だと、Aから前になりますので、earlier にしないと結婚が既に過去のことなので、文が成り立ちませんよね。 勘違いされていると思われます。

Two years earlier は ～より２年早い Two years ago は ２年前 earlierは～より早いという意味なので 何か比較対照が必要です。

ああ、なんとなく解りました。この文の前にはホームズの元におびえた女性が訪れる描写があります。 "In'The Specled Band',Holmes's visitor is a very frightened young woman." この文の後に質問の文が来ます。 "この女性がホームズの元に訪れる二年前～"ということでよろしいでしょうか。 "ago"だと現実世界の二年前、つまり2007年の事になってしまうという事でよろしいでしょうか。

その不可解な死を遂げた双子の残りの一人も「二年後に死ぬか、彼女に何か(多分不幸なことだと思う)が起きる」と読者に分かっているので、、、、、

Thanks to spring rains and warm weather, the corn crop will be harvested two weeks earlier this year. two weeks earlier this yearの部分は文構造的にはどういう扱いなのでしょうか？ this yearが副詞句としてもearlierが浮くので・・・ earlierは比較級ですから形容詞ですよね？
