難しい言い回しですが toil away on には、あくせく働き続ける、精を出して働く、という意味があるようです。検索した例は These days many workers toil away on the job, fearing they may be the latest victim of a layoff. I too have recently quit full time work to toil away on my own software development ideas.... ...while you toil away on that next 80-page manifesto...

こんにちは。 "They'll be away for the next few weeks."という例文があります。 なぜ"next a few weeks"ではなく"next few weeks"なのでしょうか？ few単体で言えば、few=ほとんどない、a few=いくつかの、2,3の、という意味と理解しています。そこから言えば、"次の2,3週間"と言いたいときは、"next a few weeks"が適当な気がしています。 どなたか解説いただけると大変ありがたいです。 よろしくお願いいたします。
