ＮＨＫラジオ英会話講座より It seems we won't be abele to agree any time soon on what to throw away. 何を捨てるかすぐには意見が一致することはないみたいだね。 (質問） （１）[agree] と [on]の間に[any time soon]が割り込んでいます。 [agree on anytime soon what..]とか[agree on what to throw away any time soon]では間違いですか？何か決まりがありますか？ （２）[any time soon]を「すぐには」と訳していますが、[soon]だけで十分意味は通じると思いますが、その違いを教えて下さい。 初級者です。易しい説明をお待ちします。よろしくお願いいたします。以上

ご質問の（１）については回答＃１さんのご意見に賛成です。 私は （２）[any time soon]と[soon]だけの違いは？ について考えてみました。 ⇒ 前者の方が「すぐには（…ない）」の「すぐ」の部分が、より「現実味を帯びた言い方」であるような感じがします。 ● まず確認ですが、このany timeは前のnotと呼応して ”not … any time (soon)” となって否定文で用いられています。ですから平叙文の場合だと “some time (soon)” で「（将来の）いつか（に）」という感覚です。 ● では、わかりやすいように平叙文で考えてみることにします。例えば「来月パーティーをしましょう。」というときに 1. Let’s have a party next month. 2. Let’s have a party some time next month. 2の方が、来月の「不特定な時点」をさす ”some time”(いつか)がつくことで「現実味を帯びた言い方」（『ウィズダム和英辞典』・三省堂の「いつか」の項より）になるようです。 同様に、「５時から６時の間にたぶん着きます。」を英語にするときにも 3. We’ll probably arrive between 5 and 6 o’clock. 4. We’ll probably arrive some time between 5 and 6 o’clock. 4の方が、私にはより「現実味を帯びた言い方」のように感じます。 ● というわけで、ご質問の否定文、「…すぐには意見が一致することはない」でも 5. We won't be able to agree soon …. 6. We won't be able to agree any time soon …. 6の方が、より「現実味を帯びた言い方」のように感じます。 ● なお、この "not ...any time soon" 表現はアメリカ英語としている辞書がいくつかありました。（例えば"Oxford Advanced Learner's Dic."(7th ed.）) ひょっとすると、件の英文もアメリカ英語であってイギリス英語ではこうは言わないのかもしれません。が、この点はよくわかりませんでした。 ■ ついでに、ご参考までに。 tommy0313さんがかつてご質問された「QNo.2458649 不定詞？それとも現在分詞？」（http://oshiete1.goo.ne.jp/qa2458649.html）の (1) I'll get the baby(to sleep/sleeping).. ではNHKのHPでは当時、現在分詞（つまりsleeping）を正解としていましたが、先日正解を ”to sleep” に訂正しました。一度確認してみてください。

こんばんわ （１）"on" と "what"以下は切り離せませんので、"agree on anytime soon what" は選択肢としてありえません。 "agree any time soon on what。。。" と "agree on what。。。 any time soon" については、一般に英語では日本語と逆で、修飾語（"any time soon" と "on what。。。" を２つの修飾語と捉えた時に）を短いものから長いものへ並べる傾向があるという程度の意味ではないでしょうか。 （２）"soon" だけだと、"any time" の「いつでも」というニュアンスが表せないと思います。今回たまたま意見が一致しそうもないことを話しているのではなくて、この二人（？）は過去に何回かはすぐに意見が一致せず、最終的にどちらかが折れるか、中庸をとったかの経験があるのでしょうね。

この場合の on は「～について」の意なので、on の後は「何を捨てるか」が来ないとダメです。 anytime soon が後に来てしまったら、「何をすぐ捨てるか」と誤解されかねません。 anytime は、この場合「いつか」なので、特に無くても意味は通じます。

“too much time on their hands”の意味がわかりません。 ある雑誌の記事を読んでいて、 the moonbats frequenting chatrooms can return to being schmucks minus the “too much time on their hands”excuse. とありました。”too much time on thier hands”でググルと、”this is what happens when one has too much time on their hands and the department stores leave massage chairs out for freehold” という文章がぐったり疲れた男の写真と一緒に出てきます。「手が一杯」とか「やること多すぎ」とかいう意味かな、と推測しますが、口語的に良く使う表現なのでしょうか。
