簡単な翻訳のチェックを御願いします
ソフトウエア開発での受注に関するガイドラインの一部の英訳です。 「特に、業務上取り扱う外部のデータについて、業務終了後に返還・抹消する義務、業務目的以外に使用しない義務に注意する。」 Especially the handling of the data from outside should be careful; they should be deleted or returned at the end of each operation and should never be used for other purposes. ここで、(1)「外部のデータ」は the data from outside だとよくわからないので、「受注先のデータ」と訳したのですが、どう訳すべきか？「deleted or returned」と書きましたが、実際にはどこからdeleteするのか、どこへreturnするのかも書いたほうがいいと思いますが、その辺も含めてアドバイス御願いいたします。

Gです。 私も時々、翻訳を頼まれ英語に訳す時、この点で困る事があります。 業界の人は分かっているのですが、翻訳する者にとっては分からない時があります。 また、誤解している時もあります。 また、単語の使い方で、どうしても問題が起ると思われるときは、お客さんに聞きます。 仕事を受ける時に、はっきり前もって、事情により連絡をしますので、と理解してもらっていますので、聞いてはっきり自分が理解した方が訳もスムーズになります。 この場合、削除とdeleteでいいし、返還はreturnでそのデータが来たところに返すと言う理解でいいと思いますので、特に書く必要はないと感じます。 ただ、ここの「外部」が分かりません。 つまり、それが受注先と言う意味での外部なのか、その業部内で使う他の部署から来るデータなのか分かりません。 ですので、あえて言えば、data gererated by (または、supplied) other than its own departmentと言わなくてはならないと思います。 よって、私からはどのような訳になるかではなく、お客さんとこの点は確認をとった方がいいですよ、というアドバイスをさせていただきます。

これは、何のためのガイドラインでしょうか。 社内用で、ソフト開発担当者が守るべき社内ルールとしてのものでしょうか。 顧客からデータを預かる場合、その内容が機密であれば通常機密保持契約を締結するのが一般的で、その契約の中に提供するデータの取り扱いに関わる詳細が記載されます。 特に漏洩させないところがポイントになっているので、管理義務とその方法も明記されているはずです。従い、そのような類のNDA non disclosure agreementが存在するなら、その内容を各担当者に伝えなければ意味がありません。 また、取り扱いの方法は具体的に記載しなければならないと考えます。具体的には管理の方法、保存方法、コピーのあり方、returnするタイミングと方法、deleteするタイミングとその証明などと色々あります。 ところで、私は何でclientがokでcustomerがNGなのか理解できません。 で、具体的な内容の例文ですが、下記をご参照。 Any and all data and/or information obtained directly or indirectly from the customer or from any third party shall be treated as proprietary information, and all such information will be controlled in the same manner as all internal proprietary information is handled within the company. Such data and/or information shall only be used for the purpose originally intended, and shall not be released to any third party without the written consent of an authorized company official. The actual method of returning such data and the procedures governing erasing such data will be based on individual NDAs. Employees having access to such data and/or information shall have prior knowledge on the particular NDA relating to the data and/or information and shall heed to the povisions stated within the NDA.

Gです！ eさん、PIBさん、申し訳ない。 やはり、私の例文か、e-さんのアドバイスによって、この部分は変えたほうが良いですね。 carefulの主語は人間でなくてはなりません。 We/The handlers/operators should be carefulなら、良いと言う事です。 e-さんに座布団一枚です。 どうかえるべきか言っておけば、２枚だったのにな!! ＜ｇ＞ そして、私の帽子も。

少し前に「・・・しそうだなぁ」というfudgeさんの質問がありましたよね。 その時にも僕は、「the reckless carとは言えるけど、the car is recklessとは言えない」と書きました。「辞書を見て下さい」という説明が一番簡単なんだけど、辞書が嫌いなＧさんに説明するのは難しいなぁ。 例えば、 Handling is important.というのは、Handling = importantと言えるので、この文は正しいです。しかし、Handling is careful.の場合はどうですか。Handling = carefulとはならないでしょう。carefulとイコールの関係になれるのは、会社や人などですよね。recklessもそうですが、形容詞の述語用法には"be careful"なんです。 The data need careful handling. 僕はマニュアルの表現方法に関しては分からないので、この表現が適切かどうか知りません。ただこの方が、後に続くのは処理の説明なので、文の流れが良くなると思いますけど・・・

Gです。 かえるのであれば、The data provided by the clients especially should be handled carefully. かな。でも、元の文でいいと思うけどな。 絶対に変えなくてはならないとは思えなんだけど。
