Would we call this a cult of personality? ＃１ですが、そうですね、＃２さんがお書きの通り、exposing はrisks の目的語でした！辞書でrisk のところを見たら、ちゃんと<V+O（動名詞）>で例文まで出ていました。 テキトーなことを書いて、本当に申し訳ありませんでした。

こんにちは。 このorは or at least とat least と一緒だと考えて「あるいはすくなくとも」ととらえた方がいいような気がします。 そのあとのexposing 以下は分詞構文ということで、その前の部分から一応訳すと「彼が、まあ、暗殺されるかもという単なるほのめかしが、どうして猛烈な反発をくらい、あるいは少なくとも、その懐疑論者がひどくかっこわるいという批判を浴びることになるのかを説明する」 といった感じではないかと思います。 さて、今回参加させていただいたのは、前のご質問のお礼欄で検索についてお書きになっていたので、それについて是非とも書きたかったからです。 私が検索したのは"which * makes no difference" ですが、質問者さんは"which makes no difference" で検索なさったのですか？ 両者は全然違うんですよ。ポイントは「*」。これを入れることによって、この間にどんな語が来ても検索してくれるわけです。 こちらをご覧下さい。 http://www.google.co.jp/search?num=50&hl=ja&q=%22which+*+makes+no+difference%22+&btnG=%E6%A4%9C%E7%B4%A2&lr= このように*を入れて検索しますと大変便利ですので、是非ご活用なさってみてください。

Why is the Universe as it is? とはどういう意味ですか？ as it isとは辞書では1「ところが実際は」2「そのままに」とあったんですが すると「実際のところ、なぜ宇宙なのか？」という意味になりますか？ この文章の前後の部分です。↓ (1) Why does the Universe exist at all? That is, why is there anything rather than nothing? (2)Why is the Universe as it is? Some Dismiss these questions, thinking them idle. Some even think they make no sense. I believe they are both good questions. which could at least have partial answers.
