「disturbing」 の意味
いつもお世話になっています。 disturbing を辞書で調べると「心を乱す、不穏な」といった意味になるようですが、例えば下記のシチュエーションでこれを使った場合、ニュアンス的にはどんな感じになるのでしょうか？ あるアート展にて。作品を制作したアーティストとゲストの会話。 G: They're all amazing! Very pretty, nice work, Emily. A: ... They're supposed to be disturbing. きれい/かわいいね、といったゲスト側の感想が製作者側の意図と違い、disturbingであるべきなんだけど・・・ といった内容かと思うのですが、このdisturbing＝心を乱す、不穏な、に置き換えてみても何だかよく分かりません。 映画・音楽批判などで・・・。 His work's always controversial. Very disturbing. ※ちなみにお分かりの方は、controversialの適訳も含め、どういったニュアンスになるのか教えてください。 どうぞアドバイスをいただけましたらとても助かります!!

興味があって拝見させてもらいました。「英辞郎」からの引用で恐縮ですが、下記の用法も現実にあるようなので、此処は「disturbing」を「心をかき乱す様な、感動的な」と意訳するのが正解なのではないでしょうか、勿論、私はアーチスト自身が自分の作品を「心をかき乱すと思われているようね」というのはどうもぴんと来ませんが。 何れにしても、話し言葉が中心で書き言葉としては未だ普及するまでには至っていないのではないかと思量しております。 disturbing 【形】心をかき乱す（ような）、動揺させる、不安にさせる（ような）、心配させる（ような）、気がかりな、不穏な、物騒な、平静を乱す、邪魔する、騒がしい ■■The movie was a disturbing story of love and hate. ■■その映画は、愛と憎しみを描いた、心をかき乱す物語だった。

アドバイスありがとうございます。 >此処は「disturbing」を「心をかき乱す様な、感動的な」と意訳するのが正解なのではないでしょうか #1のお礼欄でも触れてみたのですが、どうも私にはここでの「disturbing」が「感動的な」といった明のニュアンスよりも「ネガティブなんだけど(いい意味で)、そこが狙い」といった感じに受け取れてしまい・・・ でも極力近い日本語に訳してみようとするとなかなか難しく、頭をひねっています。 >何れにしても、話し言葉が中心で書き言葉としては未だ普及するまでには至っていないのではないかと そうなんですか？ 私も解りませんが、それではカジュアルな友人間以外の場(メールやレポート、説明文などなど）などでは避けたほうが良い表現なのかしら・・・。どちらにしても意味が曖昧な今の段階で使う勇気はありませんが^^。 アドバイス、是非参考にさせていただきます。 ありがとうございました。

「disturbing」は世間を騒がせる＝反響があるなので、 いい意味だと思います。 「すんばらしい。とってもいいよ、この作品、エミリー」 「期待通りの反響があるといいわね～」 ではないでしょうか？ His work's always controversial. Very disturbing. は、 「彼の作品はいっつも話題になり、とっても反響があるのよ」

They're supposed to be disturbing.に近いニュアンスの訳として>「期待通りの反響があるといいわね～」という意味でアドバイスいただいているのであれば、全く想像していなかった新しいニュアンスです。なるほど。。。 近い上手い表現が出てこなくて口惜しいのですが、なんとなく、という感じでは、何と言うか、ネガティブな表現ではあるのだけれどもちょっと皮肉ってその「暗」の部分がいいんだ(・・・ ごめんなさい、自分でも何書いているのか分からなくなりそうですが^^)、みたいな意味合いのDisturbing なのかなぁ・・・ なんて。 いやはや、私の引き出しに限度がありまして分かりません^^。 もう少し色々なご意見も参考にさせていただきたいと思います。 ご丁寧なアドバイス、どうもありがとうございました! 参考にさせていただきます♪

はじめまして。 僕も英語はそんなに詳しくなく、日々学校で論文の訳とかしてる程度ですが、用は直訳じゃなくて、感情的に捕らえて見るといいかもしれないですね☆ disturbing ⇒心をかき乱すような、動揺させる、不安にさせる、心配させる、気掛かりな、不穏な、物騒な、平静を乱す、邪魔する、騒がしい とか結構意味はありますけど、ここで不穏なとか物騒なとかだと否定的な意味になってしまいますが、『心をかき乱すような』とかだと心が震え上がるほどにイイ！！っていう感じになるのではないでしょうか？？ たとえば、The movie was a disturbing story of love and hate. その映画は、愛と憎しみを描いた、心をかき乱す物語だった。 みたいに悪い感じではなくとても印象強い感じになるのではないでしょうか^^;？？ あと、controversialですが、 議論の（余地がある）、異論のある、論議の、論争の、賛否両論の、意見の分かれる、論議（論争）を呼びそうな・を呼んだ・の的の・を巻き起こす・の多い・を醸す・を招く・の的になる・になっている・好きな、論争中の［上の・好きな・の的の］、賛否両論を呼ぶ、物議を醸す［醸している］、問題の［になる・となる・になりそうな・の多い］、話題｛わだい｝となる などなど・・・・ 言い換えれば色々な言葉が出てきますが、His work's always controversial. Very disturbing.この場合は、彼の仕事は常に問題が多い。とか話題になるとかでいいと思います。 あくまで、僕自身のやり方なので、あまり参考にはならないかもしれません^^;スイマセン。 英語に詳しい方の意見も聞いてみたいですね☆

They're supposed to be disturbing.”と言っていました。 Disturbという単語に対するイメージでしょうか・・・ 何となくこんな感じかな？というイメージはあるのですが、どうもピッタリと来る相当日本語が出てこなくて・・・。 ご丁寧なアドバイス、どうもありがとうございました! 参考にさせていただきます♪

数年間Ｅメール交換をしているペンパル（同年代、大学生）が、 この数ヶ月で大きな生活の変化があったのだそうです。 母親の再婚で家を出て引っ越したり、 大切なペットが２匹同時に亡くなったり・・ 私もつらい時に励ましてもらったことのある、大切な方です。 メールでねぎらいや励ましの言葉をかけてあげたいのですが、 日本語で言う、「大変だったね、無理しないで・・」というニュアンスは 英語ではどうやったら出せるのでしょうか？ I'm sure everything will work out for the best. や、 I hope you're not too tired.くらいしか思いつきません。 何か、心温まる英語表現というのは無いものでしょうか。 小さなことでもいいので、アドバイスいただければ嬉しいです。
