知覚動詞がこの文型を取る時には、出来事として起こっていることを知覚するという意味なので、状態動詞とは共起しないということです。Johnがフランス語を話すのを見ることはできても、フランス語を知っていることを直接知覚することはできません。 I saw John stand on the table.はいいけど *I saw a lamp stand on the table.はだめ、という例があったと思います。 lampが主語の場合、standは「立つ」という動作ではなく、「立っている」という状態としか解釈できないためです。

重複してたらスミマセンが、疑問に思っていることの回答が見つからなかったので、質問させて頂きます。 知覚動詞の受動態なのですが、 (1)We saw him enter the room.→He was seen to enter the room. (2)We saw him entering the room.→He was seen entering the room. 上記は一応理解しています。 (3)We heard his name called→ His name was heard・・・・・・ 上記(3)のような過去分詞の場合はheardの後どのようになるのでしょうか？ そもそもWe heard his name call.なのかWe heard his name callingなのか、 という部分も少し理解が乏しいので、どなたか詳しい方の解説をお願い致しますm(_ _)m

I still can't believe that the young man I saw at the restaurant was Frankie. He's grown so much! （質問） sawをhad seenには置き換えられないでしょうか？（意味が変わったとしても、文法的に正しければそれでよいです）置き換えられたとしたら、had seenのほうは、どういった意味になるのでしょうか？
