東京理科大学の入試長文について。
And it is as Lucy that she has been known ever since: Lucy, who died over 3.5 million years ago, in or beside what was once a large lake. Lucy wasn't human, but neither, argued Johanson forcefully, was she an ape. この英文を訳すと 『そして、彼女が今までに知ったのはルーシとしてである。つまり、ルーシはかつて大きな湖の中で350万年前に死んだ。ジョハンソンは力強く口論した。ルーシーは現生人類、類人猿のどちらでもなかった。』 となり、なかなかうまく訳せませんでした。 この英文の訳を教えてください。よろしくお願いします。 （前文は http://okwave.jp/qa2669016.html 参照）

こんにちは。 前文は読んでませんが、 she has been known ever since は受身です(passive)ですので、 その部分を修正すれば問題なしと思います。 as Lucy that で that 以下がルーシーの近況説明（ever since -->あの時以来） あの時とは前文に書かれてると思うのですが、 つまりLucyを強調してその後にLucyの有名さを説明しているのですね。 参考にしてください。

訳は、No1、2の方が解説されているものでよいと思います。 ちなみに、最初の人類と言われているLucyを発見した Donald Johanson は日本では、ジョハンソンではなく、ヨハンソンと呼ばれることが多いです。

She said her mother had died and she was left all alone and was leaving her village. この英文の詳しい解説と和訳をお願いできませんでしょうか？ 和訳としては 「彼女は、母を失い、独りになったので、生まれた村・・・・・ と言う感じで、最後の部分が良く分かりません。最後の部分は 「生まれた村”から”離れることにしました。」 と訳すのか 「生まれた村”へ”出発することにしました。」 と訳すのかどうなのか分かりません。 「ｌeave for」で、「～に向かって出発｛しゅっぱつ｝する」 と言う意味があることは分かっているのですが、私の感覚なのですが 「母親が死に、独りになったので、村を離れることにした」 と言う感じの意味のように思っているのですが、これでは「～へ向かって出発する」の意味が全くなくなっているように思えて、どうもすっきりしません。 簡単な英文のように思っているのですが、正確に、また自分なりに納得いく訳し方が出来ていないように思い、とても悩んでおります。 英語にお詳しい方、この程度の英語知識のものですが、詳しく解説していただけませんでしょうか？ よろしくお願いいたします。

either/neitherに関する過去の質問もチェックしてみましたが、いまいちの見込めなかったもので、同じような質問になってしまって恐縮なのですが、質問させてください。 否定文に対する同意表現として使われる either/neither の使い分けが、実会話中にこんがらがってしまうことがあります。 例えば使いやすいeither/neitherとして・・・ A: I don't want to go to the game tomorrow. B: I don't, either. / Me neither. / Neither Do I. 頭で深く考えるよりも、こんな感じ？ということで独学の中から認識し感覚で実際に使っているeither/neitherですが、これらは合っています・・・よね？ 本題、というか混乱してしまうものとして・・・ この辺りがちょっと混乱してしまいます。 A: It's not raining today. B: Yeasterday, either. / Neither was yesterday. （今日は雨じゃないね） （昨日も雨じゃなかったよ） ※Bの2番目をwasにしてみましたが、これは良いのでしょうか？ A: She didn't show up for her gig last night.
