目的語がないのですが
The designers of modern architecture believe that they are helping at the revival of architecture as a live art. 建築における実用性の要求にも答えながらも芸術としての建築を表現するという お話です。helpの目的語がないのですがこれは文章のほうがおかしいのでしょうか。 よろしくお願いします。

ｈｅｌｐは自動詞・他動詞ですので、必ずしも目的語は必要ないのでは？ 訳的には、「～を助ける」よりも 近代建築の設計者が「役に立っている」「貢献している」 といった意味が自然だと思います。

help に目的語がないのは、No.1 の方が言っているように、help が、「貢献する」「役に立つ」というような自動詞であって、この場合、他動詞でないので、「目的語」を必要としないということで、文法的におかしいことはありません。 「生きた芸術としての建築の復興（リヴァイヴァル）」というのは、元々「技術」は建築も含めて、実用目的の技術と、芸術性の面の両方を、何時の時代でも持っていたのであり、敢えて「復興」というのは、建築に、実用目的ばかりが追求された、求められた時代があり、それに対し、現代において、建築の芸術性を再度強調しようということでしょう。 「現代建築の設計者たちは、自分たちが、生きた芸術としての建築の復興・再生に寄与していると信じている」というような意味でしょう。 help at the revival は、at the revival が、help に対する「与格」目的語で、一般に、「において」の意味で十分です。（与格目的語というのは、補語のことです）。

helpには自動詞で「役に立つ」という意味がありますから（辞書にも載っています）、ここはそれと考えていいのではないでしょうか。 「建築が生きた芸術としてよみがえる際に、自分たちが役に立っている（何らかの役割を果たしている）と信じている」みたいなことになると思います。あるいは「建築を生きた芸術としてよみがえらせる際に」かな。 ただ、これが十分に自然な英文なのかどうかまでは判断がつきません。

お返事感謝です！！そうですかこの場合のｈｅｌｐは自動詞だったんですね。辞書には思いっきり他動詞にスペースがさかれていたので自動詞はおまけでほとんど使われないと思っていたのですが、そういうこともないみたいですね。「役立っている」の訳語は確かに目的語が必要な動詞ではないですね。coco1さんどうもありがとうございました☆☆
