>He's got long grey hair”の部分ですが、longとgreyの順番を入れ替えることは可能ですか？ 基本的には、不可です。なぜなら、長さは散髪などで変える事が出きるが、色は、そう簡単には変わらないという意識があるからです。名詞の本来の性質に近いものは、その名詞の近くに置かれると言う法則があります。ただ、現実問題としては、その反対に、「目立つものが最初に来る」ということかと、個人的には思っています。 ＞hairは単数なのにaは不要なのでしょうか？ aは、一つと数える意味がある場合に使うのが、基本です。 髪の毛は、普通の状態では、一本一本数えませんから、頭髪全体をあらわすhair となっているわけです。 ＞cowboy bootsというのは どんな靴なんでしょうか？ 西部劇などで見ませんでしたか。結構厚い皮でできた、くるぶしが隠れるような靴のことです。

教本で見ると、形容詞の語順は 数量-> 形態（大小など）-> 性状（色など）-> 材料 の順 とありますが、 ”He is crazy about Jane's ( ) hair." の答えは "long attractive blond" です。 なぜ、blond が long の後なのか、わかりません。 また、私は、 opinion-> size-> age-> shape-> color-> origin-> material の順だと思っていたのですが、これだと attractive が最初にくると思うのですが...。 ちょっと混乱してきました。どなたかアドバイスお願いします！

書き換え問題で、He got very angy, for she refused his request. =Her ( ) of his request ( ) him very angry. テキストの解答は、refusal とmadeでした。解説では動詞のあとがhim angryという「代名詞+形容詞」がポイント。この語順をいかして「使役」の意味を示せるのはmakeしかないので答えがきまるとありました。 わたしは、Her refusal of his request got him very angry.でも、正解だと思いいますが、いかがでしょうか？ get とmake でニュアンスは多少違うと思いますが、getもある状態にするということでget a person madなどという表現はよく使うと思います。使役という言葉の定義もいろいろとあると思いますが、この問題でgotは正解か不正解か、そして、（Ｓ+Ｖ+名詞+形容詞）で使役の意味を表せるのはmakeだけとの解説は正しいのかを教えてください。

Cathy: You're joking, he's got more sense! そこで質問ですが、「Whose pen is this?」で、私が学校で習った記憶では 「Whose is this pen？」という構文でしたが、それらは全く同じように使っていいのでしょうか？ また この会話で少し分かりにくかったのは、最後の he's got more sense! の部分なんですが、これは 「Simonなら あなたと違ってペンくらい貸してくれるよ。」という皮肉を込めたセリフと解釈していいでしょうか？

Recently, I had to give up alcohol for medical reasons—it may or may not be permanent. One side effect is I don’t have as much tolerance for family events or weddings that used to seem fine (or even great) with a few beers. My husband’s family is large and we are obligated to go to a lot of family gatherings. Unfortunately, I’ve found that without alcohol, these events range from boring to someone-please-shoot-me. My husband admits that these events aren’t fun without alcohol, and he is sympathetic, but he is unwilling to forego drinking to see what it’s like for me to sit through these events sober. I just want him to have a more realistic understanding of how painfully boring things can be without a cocktail. I stay home as much as is possible, but sometimes there are events you do have to attend. I’d just prefer we stay for an hour or two rather than a beer-fueled five or six. Am I being unreasonable? 回答ありがとうございます。 形容詞の順番については学校でもあまり詳しく教えませんが、やはりそうだったんですね。 hairもa hairの形は見ませんね。では「一本の髪の毛」はどう表現するのでしょうか？
