"This despite ..." は辞書等には採られていないようで、意味について確証が得られない状態ですが、この表現が他国語と対訳になっているケースを探してみました（ロゼッタストーンの要領です）。いちおう参考になるかと。興味半分なので徹底的な調査はしていませんが、２例が見つかりました。 [1] 「Nova's prices are some 20% higher than freeX. Ein Ausschnitt aus einem amerikanischen Film uber die 'Rothschilds', von Juden gedreht, zeigt uns die raffiniert-judische Grundlage und Entwicklung dieses Bankhauses. http://www.holocaust-history.org/der-ewige-jude/program.shtml こちらはドイツ語との対訳ですが、英語の "and this despite the fact that ..." に当たる部分は "und obwohl ..." となっており、ドイツ語の und は英語の and、同じく obwohl は although の意味です。 これらの例から推測するに、this despite the fact that ... は実用上はやはり「...にもかかわらず」と解釈しておけばよいと思われます。やや強調の気持ちの入った表現であること（および although と違って独立した文として使われうること）は、puni2さんのご説明のとおりでしょう。 もちろんこういう表現についてはネイティブに聞けば早いのですが、今回は、この表現が本当に存在するのかというところから始めて意味の推測まで、ネット上でどれだけ調べられるかという練習問題のつもりで、あれこれやってみました。私自身もいろいろ勉強になりました。面白い題材をご提供くださったbeaurahさんに感謝します。

「I plan to quit SSS soon and work that 1 day a week I work at SSS to work at AAA. I'll get automatic overtime.」 という会話文についてです。 現在週に5日はAAAでフルタイム働き、1日はSSSで働いているそうです。 それをふまえると、 SSSをやめてその1日をAAAで働くと1週間で48時間働く事になるので 8時間分はovertimeが適用されるという意味に受け取りました。 そして 「I plan to quit SSS soon and work that 1 day a week I work at SSS to work at AAA.」 はどこで区切れますか？ 文の組み立てを教えてください。 会って聞いたわけではなく、チャットでしたので区切り方がわからず、 文の組み立てがつかめなかったのですぐには意味がわかりませんでした。 宜しくお願いします。

アルパチーノ主演のトゥ フォー ザ マネーと言う映画で アルパチーノが言ったせりふに You know that? You and me. this thing's gonna work. というのがあります。 お前と俺ならうまくやれる と言うニュアンスなのはわかりますが、 yahooの翻訳でもそういう風には出てきません。 こういう文章は辞書にも載っていないのでどのように学習すればいいのかわかりません。
