下の文は St Hilda's, Oxford's only all-female college, typically receives far fewer applications than other colleges ― less than one for every two places offered in classics, biology or chemistry, for instance ― but gains from the university’s allocation of candidates who have expressed no college preference.

effective schools are indeed more likely to have supportive parents, though the differences are not always as large as might be expected. The smallest differences are in direct parent involvement, In effective and ineffective schools , parents are about equally likely to attend parent-teacher conferences, visit classes. and phone the school about problems. Parents do attend more PTA meetings at effective schools than at ineffective ones, but at both types of schools only a small minority of parents attend. The differences between schools are greater when we look at parent involvement from the other direction.

The wood we use in Japan is imported from more than 100 countries around the world. The basic materials for paper products such as books, notebooks, and tissue paper are made from imported wood pulp. These products make our lives more convenient, but by using so many of them, we may be indirectly damaging the earth’s environment even further. Since Japan imports so much of the world’s wood, we have a big responsibility to save the forests.

The research suggests that consumers lose around £1.2 billion every year. On average victims have a higher chance than non-victims of falling for another scam within 12 months of first being caught out, because their personal details are added to so-called 'sucker list' of people who have been taken in; the list is then sold to other scammers. While the elderly were more likely to be targeted by a scam, the highest percentage of vibtims were, surprisingly, aged between 35 and 44. Of those who fell for the scams, 32 percent said it was because of the legitimate and professional style of the communication, 25 percent said they were caught off guard, and 18 percent because of excitement at the prospect of getting a good deal or winning a prize. The research also highlighted the fact that whilst men and women are equally likely to be victims of scams, women are more likely to fall victim to miracle health scams and career opportunity scams, while men are more likely to lose money to investment scams and lottery scams. Most strikingly, the study found that less than five percent of those scammed reported their experience to the authorities, so the scale of the problem is far greater than had hitherto been thought.

Loss of spouse During the early years of life, loss of souse is certainly not a normally encountered crisis. After adolescence, however, it becomes increasingly common with increasing age. During the early years of adulthood, divorce cause loss of a spouse much more often than death does. Incidentally, the crisis of losing a spouse is more likely to have a gradual onset in the early adult years than a sudden onset, because during these years divorce-the more usual cause of losing a spouse-is likely to result from a gradual buildup of tensions, while death-the less common cause of losing a spouse-is likely to have a sudden onset. The most common cause of death in early adulthood, as in adolescence, is accident.

A world of craft production and barter would have little use for the quantifier’s tools, and would be impervious to them. It has been urged that accounts have less to do with representing conditions than with guiding behavior in large firms.
