以前年賀状に『a happy new year』とかいていたらそれをみた 親戚の叔母が「『happy new year』に『a』をつけるのは間違いだよ だって『happy birthday』に『a』はつけないでしょ？」といわれました。 一応私は英語学科を卒業していましたのでショックを受けすぐにインターネット で調べてみました。やはり間違いだとかいてあるサイトが結構あるし そのような事を書いている本も結構出版されているようでした。 実はその叔母の娘さんはオーストラリア人と結婚したのですが、 その娘さんの旦那さんの妹さん（オーストラリア人）が日本へくる 機会があったので、きいてみました。 答えは「間違いではないけど『a』ない方がよりいい』という説明でした。 その事は明確な答えが分からないまま時間が過ぎていましたが、 今年その娘さんの母親からきたメールで気になる表現がありました。 それは『a late happy birthday』でした。 『happy birthday』も前に形容詞がつけば『a』がつくのか？ そもそも『happy』自体形容詞だし、一個つこうが二個つこうが 理屈は変わらないと思いますが、『happy birthday』はもう一つの 単語になっていてそれに『late』という形容詞がついているのから 『a』がつくのか？ 益々分からなくなりました。 実際、XmasをX'masと書くのは間違いだと本で読んだことがありますが、 オーストラリア人に聞いてみると『どっちでもいい』というし、 そもそもネイティブは文法的に正しいとか考えながら文章を書いたり 喋ったりしていないだろうし（それは我々日本人も同じだと思いますが） 実際オーストラリア人の書いたメールの文章を翻訳サイト等で 試しに翻訳してみると無茶苦茶な日本語になります。 そもそもアメリカ、イギリス、オーストラリアで『new year』だけを単体で 使うことがあまりなく普通『christmas』セットで使うのかも知れませんが 『a happy new year』と書くのはやはり間違いなのでしょうか？

日本に観光で来た外国人の日本に対する満足度調査をしたいのですが 良いサイトがあれば教えていただけないでしょうか？ 日本は、多少の欠点もありましょうが、 どう考えても世界一いいところが多い国だと 思います。 ほんの少し例をあげてもそうです。 治安→飛びぬけてよい（日本の次に良いといわれる台湾や韓国と比べても飛びぬけてよい） 衛生面→これはもう比較するのがないくらいに良い 走っている車もピカピカの新車ばかりだと外国人は 驚きます。 トイレの手洗いの水まで飲めるのは日本だけでしょう。 交通インフラ→都市部でこれほど地下鉄やバスなどが整備されている 国は他にはないでしょう。 それも正確に時間通り運行されていて事故率も極めてすくない。 書籍→海外の本がすぐに翻訳されて発行される国も 他に類例をみないでしょう。日本語だけで事足ります。 物質→世界中のありとあらゆる物がお金さえだせば手に入ります。 警察→市民と接する部分では特に買収賄賂を受け取らずに働いている 海外では警察さえも信用出来ない国も多々あります。 一般大衆→総じて日本ほど親切な国民はいないと 思います。他国では、部分的に親切な方もいますが トータルでみるとやはり日本がダントツですね。 医療→国民がだれでも病院にいけるのは 世界で日本だけです。最近では、そこからもれている 貧乏な人たちもいますが、そんなのは誤差の範疇でしょう。 他国は、誤差の範疇といえないほどのひどさです。 代表的な欠点をあげるなら「物価」が高いことでしょう。 でも、費用対効果（受ける恩恵）からみると割安だと思います。 こんな素晴らしい日本で不満を抱いて帰る外国人が どれほどいるのかもとても興味のあるところです。 よろしくお願いします。
