英語 なぜhimはだめなのですか？

＞Weren’t you surprised that he cut his hair by ( )? ( )にはhimselfが入るのですが，なぜhimでは間違いなのでしょうか？byのあとは目的格なので文法的にはあっていると思います。 ⇒形の上では確かに、himも目的格なので文法的にはあっていますね。 しかし、意味があわないことになるのです。もしhimとすれば、「その前のhe やhisで表される人物とは違う人」を意味してしまうからです。ですから、この場合のhimselfは、「彼自身が自分で」という意味を表していることになります。

- 目的格の時のthatと同格をあらわすthat(thatは接続詞）について教えてください。
こんばんは。 We were surprised at the news (that)he had achieved the task for himself. という文があって、カッコの中はthatだったのですが、 まえに目的格のthatというのがあってそういうときはthatしか使えないというものでした。 この文の時のthatは同格をあらわすthatでこのthatは接続詞。と書いてあるのですが、 普通の目的格のthatに見えるのですがなにが違うんでしょうか。 よかったら教えてください。 よろしくお願いします。
