中学英語の問題
私は今年受験生となりました。 実は、英語の問題集を解いているにあたり、答えが無い問題なのですが、わからないものがでてしまいました。 何度教科書を見直してもわかりません。 下記の問題です。 ・次の文がほぼ同じ内容になるように、___に適当な語を入れなさい。 問題；Mr.Smith is older than Mr.Green. Mr.Green is _____ _____ old _____ Mr.Smith. 私としては「more」「years」「than」かな、などとは思ったのですが、この答えではどう考えても無理矢理です。 どうぞ宜しくお願い致します。

中学生レベルだと Mr. Green is not as old as Mr. Smith. が一般的だと思います。 (中学の時習った記憶ある・・・

英語の教科書には 訳も構文の解説も書いていないので、教科書か参考書を一つそろえるといいでしょう。 ＃１さんの回答で正解です。 Mr. Green is not as old as Mr. Smith. も可能です。 あと、これは中学校で習わなくて受験にも関係ないと思いますが、参考までに。 Mr. Green is less old than Mr. Smith. という構文もあります。

大学受験用の英語の問題を解いていて…。 that節の中に there is more to making a hero than merely the bottom line of success とあったのですが文の構造がよくわかりません。 (is以降) more ( to making a hero ) than ( merely the bottom line of success) と分けて考えて、 than以下は「成功という最終的な結果以上の」と訳して差し支えがなさそうなのですが(解答を見たら)、 more to making a hero とthan以下は文法的にどのように繋がっているのですか？ 訳の例では「ヒーローであることには成功という最終的な結果以上のものが存在する」となっています。
